Europe turns on Trump as allies ‘squirm’

European nationalist leaders are pulling back from Donald Trump, with allies reportedly “squirming” at his rhetoric and erratic policy moves. Once seen as a standard-bearer for populism, Trump is now testing loyalties across the continent. The shift exposes fractures in a political alliance that once appeared solid.

Farage Breaks Ranks as Distance Grows

Nigel Farage, long one of Trump’s closest European allies, has publicly cooled ties. “I happen to know him, but that’s by the by,” he told reporters — a pointed step back from past enthusiasm.

He is not alone. Across Europe, nationalist figures who once embraced Trump’s agenda are now creating distance as his second term unfolds.

‘Genocidal Rhetoric’ Sparks Alarm

Concerns have intensified over Trump’s language and actions, particularly following the Iran conflict. Leaders from London to Rome have been unsettled by his shifting tariffs, ambitions over Greenland, and military decisions.

Tino Chrupalla of Germany’s Alternative for Germany party accused the administration of potential “war crimes.” In France, Marine Le Pen warned of “catastrophic consequences,” citing rising fuel prices and lack of preparation.

Populist Alliance Starts to Fracture

The political fallout is widening. Jordan Bardella has criticised Trump’s “imperial ambitions,” while analysts say the broader populist movement is losing cohesion.

Political scientist Ivan Krastev argued Trump fails to grasp the nationalism of other countries. Meanwhile, Mujtaba Rahman said expectations of alignment between Washington and Europe have “totally fallen apart.”

Vatican Row Deepens the Rift

Tensions escalated further after Trump’s comments about the Vatican and Pope Leo XIV. He claimed credit for the pontiff’s selection and shared an AI-generated image of himself in a Christ-like role, before deleting it amid backlash.

The reaction was swift. Giorgia Meloni, who had positioned herself as a bridge to Trump, condemned the remarks as “unacceptable” and defended the Pope’s authority.

Alliance Under Strain as Stakes Rise

Fifteen months into Trump’s second term, the relationship between his movement and Europe’s nationalist parties is under severe strain. What once looked like a transatlantic political force is now fragmenting under pressure.

With conflicts abroad and tensions rising at home, European leaders are recalibrating fast. The question now is not alignment — but how far the break will go.

You seem to be the Trump equivalent on AN. A fool who 'opens his mouth' just for the sake of it, spouts any old nonsense and seems to be mentally unstable.

Got it. That doesnt change the fact that your lot are unreliable allies that have leached off us for too long. Now be happy, we will be getting out of your hair.

Consistant with your shilling for Russia and your constant anti-Western rhetoric. At best, a wind up merchant. You might even be Russian or of Russian extraction give the user name ягода.
