Can a Thai Wife Get a U.S. SSN or TIN Assigned While in Thailand
Yes. As a US citizen, I am required to pay income tax on worldwide income. I file a joint return as I am married to a Thai national. She was issued a TIN as I claim her as a dependent, thus the personal deduction. I use a tax filing agency in Bangkok but requested the TIN through the IRS website (if I recall correctly). Sadly, I am not allowed to claim my full-time student, living at hone as a dependent unless she is legally adopted. Bottom line ... no tax due as I am below income requirement. -

Yeah, I was thinking that line of thought too, but then wondered about the sort of ailments the two groups have. I would guess much (or at least more) of the foreign biz is elective plastic surgery and does that have a higher profit margin? I would guess they are ripping off the locals proportionately similar to foreigners... 5 star hotel with medical concessions. No thanks -

From Georgealbert update post above: To ensure transparency and protect the donated money, a five-member financial oversight committee has been established. Withdrawals from the account will require the approval of at least three members. Kriss will have access to the money only for essential needs and the account will remain under school supervision until she completes her education.
