Trump Lambasts Starmer Over Mandelson ‘Disaster Pick’ On Going Saga

Trump Starme 2r.jpg

Donald Trump has piled into Keir Starmer over the spiralling row surrounding Peter Mandelson, branding the appointment of the Labour grandee as U.S. ambassador a “really bad pick.”

Posting on his platform, Truth Social, Trump mocked Starmer’s admission that he had exercised “wrong judgment,” adding bluntly: “I agree.” In classic fashion, he twisted the knife while leaving a sliver of room for recovery, saying there was still “plenty of time to recover.”

A PM Under Fire

Starmer is now fighting for political survival as the Mandelson controversy detonates across Westminster. The Prime Minister has admitted the appointment was a mistake, but insists he was kept in the dark about failed security vetting—an explanation that has been met with open disbelief.

Opposition leader Kemi Badenoch tore into Starmer in the Commons, warning his account was becoming “murkier and more contradictory” with each passing day. She pressed him on why Mandelson was appointed before vetting was complete—an extraordinary break with protocol for such a sensitive diplomatic post.

Blame Game in Whitehall

Starmer has attempted to shift responsibility onto officials, particularly the former top civil servant Olly Robbins, who was sacked after allegedly overruling security concerns. But that defence is fraying.

Senior Labour figures are now turning on their own leader. Diane Abbott pointedly reminded the House of Mandelson’s long and controversial history, asking why Starmer failed to probe deeper before handing him one of Britain’s most critical diplomatic roles.

Meanwhile, Ed Davey has gone further, openly calling for Starmer’s resignation, arguing he appears “in office, but not in power.”

Mounting Crisis

The scandal has triggered an emergency Commons debate, a national security review, and growing unrest inside Labour ranks. Questions remain unanswered: why vetting was bypassed, what risks were posed, and whether the Prime Minister misled Parliament.

Even allies are struggling to defend the government’s shifting narrative. With documents delayed and key figures preparing to testify, the crisis shows no sign of easing.

Trump’s intervention only sharpens the political damage—turning a domestic scandal into an international embarrassment and underlining just how badly this episode has spiralled for Starmer.

Got a nice clicky baity headline for me on this story pls

Starmer isn't 'obviously' but if he is not lying then he is, as Ed Davey says, “in office, but not in power.”

Either way not a good look.

Oh the irony......Bondi, Noem, the Labour Secretary and next week Patel......you couldn't write this stuff.

Msndleson was a known sleazebag going back decades ,he didn’t need checking
