Twenty Chinese nationals were arrested by the Bureau of Immigration and the 10th Infantry Division on Wednesday, April 22, for alleged illegal mining in Pantukan, Davao de Oro, and Tagum City, Davao del Norte. They were unable to present appropriate permits and documentation. Recovered items included mineral resources, heavy equipment, explosives, and Chinese military uniforms, suggesting possible links to illicit mining networks.

Major Gen. Alvin Luzon stated that the individuals held tourist visas and had overstayed in the area. The operation was part of Mission Orders 2026-151 and 152, focusing on those violating the Philippine Immigration Act of 1940. They face charges for undesirability due to expired visas and violations of the Philippine Mining Act of 1995.

Investigations revealed their involvement in small-scale illegal mining, extracting gold and other minerals for smuggling. Luzon emphasized the military's support in coordinating the operation, highlighting the dual focus on immigration violations and threats to national resources and security.

Authorities continue to investigate the scope of illegal mining activities and potential security risks. Ongoing efforts aim to address and prevent similar unlawful activities by foreign nationals.
