The Vietnamese government has announced a proposal to cap the number of boats and restrict tourism zones in Ha Long Bay. This move aims to alleviate the environmental pressure on the UNESCO World Heritage site. Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra signed off on this initiative on April 21, which seeks to preserve and protect the bay's unique ecology.

The comprehensive plan will cover 676.36 square kilometers, including Ha Long Bay and the Cat Ba Archipelago. It focuses on maintaining the natural landscape and ecological balance while promoting sustainable tourism. The plan intends to set a clear environmental carrying capacity for the area to ensure that tourism growth doesn't harm the bay's distinctive features.

Ha Long Bay, renowned for its scenic limestone cliffs and lush islands, is a major tourist attraction approximately two hours from Hanoi. Despite its popularity, the bay has faced issues such as overcrowding and pollution—common complaints among visitors. This has prompted authorities to take action in preserving its environmental integrity.

Experts believe that establishing limits on tourist boats will significantly reduce the environmental footprint in Ha Long Bay. The local government is expected to enforce these measures rigorously to protect the site for future generations. Meanwhile, the tourism industry anticipates potential regulatory changes and is preparing to adapt to new operational guidelines.

Moving forward, authorities will draft detailed regulations to implement these tourism restrictions effectively. The planned measures aim to balance conservation efforts with economic needs, ensuring that Ha Long Bay remains a viable tourist destination while safeguarding its natural beauty.
