Visa Extensions

Featured Replies

I went to immigration in BKK last week to get my 1 year extension and I saw a hand written sign by the window where people go for extensions of thirty day stamps and tourist visas. It said "only 7 day extensions for all visas".

If I remember correctly you used to be able to get a 15 day extension for a tourist visa; has anyone else seen this or heard anything about this?

I believe that sign in is reference to the people that come in to the country without a visa, get a 30 day stamp.

Years ago you used to be able to get a 15 day extension, then it dropped to 10 days, and now, not long ago ( a year or two), they dropped the max ext to 7 days.

It applies to all extensions of stay and has been the case for about a year now - only 7 days extension and only one time. This has no effect on one years extensions of stay - just the extra days that people try to add onto visa exempt, tourist and non immigrant 90 day stays. Emergency medical and things like that are be an exception to the 7 day limit.

Ok, it sounds like this is old news; I guess the hand written signs are the only thing new. I had never seen it before so I thought I would mention it.

What you've written here is ambiguous. Any chance you could clarify?

I've had no problems up until last month to get a 30 day extension on tourist visas (got one on July 30). One member has been refused a 30 day extension on a tourist visa this week. Has there been a recent change of 30 day extension policy?

yes I would like some more reports of this too, and clarification.

Last week I extended my 3rd TV by 30 days at the CM immigration. I received full 30 days and saw no notices saying there is any change to this.

I was not speaking to the normal 30 extra days of a tourist visa but we now see that it too can be shorted to 7 days. What I was talking about is there is no more 15 days followed by 10 or 7 days as was often the case in the past. It is now one extension of 7 days once you reach 30 days on visa exempt or 90 days on tourist or non immigrant stay.

Thanks. It was your inclusion of the tourist visa in your first post that brought about the confusion. Is it possible to get a 7 day extension on a 30 day extension of a tourist visa?

People have often reported doing so when they have a flight several days after the 60+30 - rather than making a border trip for a 30 day visa exempt entry.

Actually my quote was "tourist and non immigrant 90 day stays". If you stay 60+30 you will not receive more than 7 days for final extension.

On this leave rotation I entered Thailand on the Visa Exempt system (30days).

I just recieved a 10 day extension from Chiang Mai Immigration for 1900 THB.

That is interesting - are you sure it is 10 days and not 7? From previous reports they were trying to end the different numbers at various locations and make all 7 days - and indeed that is what most people are reporting.

Aeu contraire Phi Lop...at least in Pattaya, they still give 30-day extensions oon tourist visas. I know, I just extended mine yesterday. I can scan in the page if you would like to see further confirmation of this. :o

A year or so ago, they were doing the 15-day "temporary" extension while under consideration and then "come back 15 days" and get "approval" for the extension for another 15 days = 30-day extension [gotta love LOS]. For some period as I recall (again a couple years ago) they were only doing maybe 7-10 day extensions of T-visas. However, at least for the past year or so, it's back to 30-days.

Have a look at post no. 7

Could it be possible to get an odd number of days extension by discussing particular circumstances with the Immigration Officers? Do they listen to people, or just blindly stick by their rules?

Check out the link above to another post and diisregard what I have said so far on this post. I didn't realize window 2 was for tourist visas and counter 5 was only for the visa on arival, I thought both were done at wind 5. I saw the signs only at counter 5
