Russian slaps Indian man in Pattaya parking row

Featured Replies

A Russian man stopped to help a Thai fruit vendor during an early-morning confrontation with an Indian motorcyclist in southern Pattaya.

Video of the incident, which took place near VC Hotel at about 3.20am on August 23, has since spread widely on Thai social media. Police were called and later warned the Indian man not to threaten local people, according to the vendor.

Parking row leads to fight

The footage shows an Indian man, wearing a dark shirt and red trousers, arguing with another foreign man said to be Russian, who was dressed in black.

The dispute became physical when the Russian man slapped and kicked the Indian man. Several Thai women, believed to be bar workers, tried to break up the fight but were initially unable to separate them.

The confrontation continued until the Indian man fell to the ground. Witnesses then managed to intervene, after which the Russian man returned to his yellow car.

Fruit vendor Urai, 50, said the incident began after she asked the Indian man to move his motorcycle from what she described as a prohibited parking area.

She said he refused and approached her while shouting vulgarities. Urai said she moved away and asked him to keep his distance, but he continued to act in a threatening manner.

According to Urai, the Russian motorist had been passing the stall when he stopped to assist her before the argument escalated.

Police called after apology

Urai said the Indian man later returned to her fruit stall to apologise. Officers who attended the scene warned him not to threaten people in the area, she added.

Local news agencies have reported several previous confrontations at the same location. Some reports suggested parking disputes may have played a part, with allegations that the fruit vendor had stopped people parking near her stall.

Urai denied preventing motorists from parking there, saying taxi and baht bus drivers regularly parked nearby.

Can't this man get drunk and threaten fruit vendors back home in India? Why does he need to come to Pattaya?

And good on the Russian who helped the vendor. 🫠

Looks like the Russian is guilty of assault..... but 'hard not to' sometimes!

The Indian guy deserved it.

Taxis and Baht buses regularly park here. Yeah tight as if she is going to tell them they can't park there. Seem it's the fruit seller causing the problem

I am guessing it was her usual pitch!

Yeah, hard to tell all the circumstances but a rough guess would be the Indian guy parked on her usual sales pitch, which is probably not prohibited parking at all ( otherwise how come she parks there), and so she wanted him to move.

Indian guy reacts badly in a verbal way, then gets physically assaulted by the Russian.

Good and bad on all sides really, but this is Thailand. The fruit seller of limited means needs to make a living. Usually vendors have to pay to have a pitch to sell their wares, it’s not a big thing to move a motorbike in order to go along, to get along. Indian guy didn’t see it like that.

Bit surprised the Russian guy didn’t get a warning, but maybe he had moved on quickly enough.

All a to do about not much really.

I have seen and heard Indians shouting at Thais in a deeply unpleasant way several times. I have also witnessed Indians shouting at Indians in India. Seems to be a part of their way of life.

Nice. They have groupies cheering them on.

She did not have authority to dictate who should park or not park anywhere. But being a lawless (in practice) place things like this happen regularly.

In what language (Swahili? Indian? Thai? Russian?) could a Russian communicate with an Indian? 99.9 percent of Russians only know Russian. And wouldn't a Russian have stood up for an unfamiliar saleswoman.

I suspect the main internationally understood form of communication was a bunch of fives

"...she asked the Indian man to move his motorcycle from what she described as a prohibited parking area." Prohibited by who?

Russian had a night stick assault weapon in his hand. Looks like he was crusin to do some brusin.

This sort of confrontation not a question of 'if' but 'when'. They seem to have culturally incompatible means of being obnoxious. Other than just being loud

Unauthorized ownership of public parking spaces by vendors is a huge problem in Pattaya. There isn't a day that goes by without a parking space dispute. Pattaya city hall officials need to get a handle on this problem. Just my humble opinion.

I have immediate dislike for this hot-headed Russian getting on high horse and start telling people off in a self-righteous manner. There is no excuse of him picking up a weapon and hitting the Indian over a parking space dispute. Who made him judge and jury.

very brave russian, slapping someone

and holding a stick in wood or iron in the other hand

in case he would get one back

did the indian see it ?

I've yet to meet an Indian who isn't in desperate need of a slap, but that's not something I'd dish out myself, for a variety of reasons. Well done though.

The Indian was lucky the gay Russian didn’t hit him with his dildo.

it's a bitch slap ffs... Indian deserved this.

yeah, bullying a female fruit vendor.

he deserved a kick in the head along the slap in the face.

Pfft, If some Thai tells me I can not park there !, then I look for another parking place !! It's that simple, just avoid any confrontation that can turn ugly out of your control.

T.I.T. This Is Thailand ! We are here to enjoy the culture, make friends and enjoy life in general.

Is the Russian holding a weapon in his right hand in the video?
