CCTV Captures Foreigners Stealing Guitar in Phuket

Featured Replies

A 19-year-old Thai man, Kasidit, is seeking help after two foreign men stole his guitar from his parked motorcycle in Karon, Phuket. The incident occurred around 2.30 am on April 23 and was captured on CCTV. The footage shows the suspects stopping near their motorcycles, with one playing the guitar before leaving the scene.

Kasidit, who reported the theft to the Karon Police Station, had parked his motorcycle briefly to meet a friend. Upon his return, he found the guitar missing. The police have yet to provide updates on the suspects' identities, and Kasidit has not revealed the guitar's value.

The theft sparked online criticism, with Thai netizens urging local authorities to take stricter action against foreign offenders. Concerns have been raised about increasing crimes involving foreigners in Phuket, with some suggesting a reduction in the visa-free stay period from 60 to 30 days.

The government recently discussed potential visa policy changes aimed at promoting long-stay and high-quality visitors. Previous thefts by foreign nationals were reported last month, including incidents on Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lanta, involving theft of liquor and fuel.

Should repay ten times the value of the guitar. No excuse for such disgusting behaviour.

Too hard to resist for a couple of drunk guys staggering home. Lucky it wasn't a trumpet!

I've lived in Thailand about 25 years, been playing guitar for about 60 years.

A few bricks shy of a load to leave guitar on motorcycle... aka 'stupid' or 'just asking for it'.

I have had one guitar stolen over the years here. Had shophouse and someone came in thru door to roof & down the stairs... we hadn't gotten wrought iron security door yet.

Only 2 other buildings had access to roof, one renting out rooms, but what cha gonna do?

Yes not a good idea to leave the guitar exposed on a motor bike

No doubt he will have to pull a few strings to get it back

Stop fretting about things that don't concern you?

Yeah, Most likely from Liverpool. giggle

He has now learned the chords for "While my guitar gently weeps " 🎶

This is the kind of teenage tourists Thailand loves to attract and on the other side, fuss on the visa issues for the other quality foreigners who have property and are subject to far to many bureaucratic hassles during their visa submissions. For instance the Non O immigrant visa on retirement basis should be valid at least 5 months for the foreigner who owns property in Thailand and with far less hassles and documents asked during the submissions in the Thai consulates abroad.

Shop lifting is only a crime because rich people do not have to steal.

Everyone that wants a guitar should have one, regardless of their means.

I don't understand how some can come here to another country, either on vacation or for work, and steal from other people. He obviously played it for a bit to see if anyone would come out and say something, then decided to leave with it. Locals for the most part don't have much extra cash, and taking from those who don't is pretty messed up. Not a good idea to leave anything around to tempt others, but people leave all sorts of things on scooters everyday here because they don't think they'll lose them, country or city. The poor will steal to eat, but taking someone's guitar is like stealing their daily bread. Hope it gets returned, as a music lover I understand the loss.

They do it because in their cultures, stealing is okay,

The US is fast becoming that way. political "celebrities" on mainstream podcast bragging about stealing, and saying it's okay because the corporations are stealing, and the fawning hosts nodding along.

To many, murder is okay, if the victim is a healthcare CEO or some-such.

Rule of law/English common law is suffering in a lot of places, and without it, we are lost.

The rich get away with stealing all the time, and many other crimes. Especially those in the media spotlight. Pop stars acting like sluts, and many teen girls emulating them. World out of balance for a long time. Koyaanisqatsi from the Hopi language.Only when a judge is put into the spotlight before the judgement do they react accordingly. Corruption pays a lot, so many take advantage of it.

You say the rich get away with sealing all the time. You think all reach people steal? How do you define rich, anyone with more than you?

It has been my experience that crime is generally untreated to economic status, at least in the US.

There was a time when people would be shamed for committing crimes, now they are often celebrated.

Of course not all well off steal. Many open companies or have ideas that make money, inventions, technology and the like. I mean the ones who waylay judges, pay them off, to get access to developments that are taking away the beauty of the land, driving wildlife off and replacing it with subdivisions.

Drug dealers and all involved with them, which includes some officials. White collar defense lawyers defending white collar criminals. Manipulation of media by payoffs. Money laundering, offshore accounts to hide funds. Human traffickers.

Working for a living doesn't make most rich. Comfortable yes, which is not what I'm referring to.

Even a friend who has a construction company tells me how many parcels of land are condemned, by those manipulating the system, so they can then develop them.

How many farmers are pushed off their lands to make way for larger companies.

Banks make massive amounts of money by overdraft fees and interest spreads, borrowing for almost nothing and lending at high rates. Banks have foreclosed on many farms only too turn them around for profits. Junk fees also.

So a small percentage of the rich

How much is rich?

Your beef is with the government.

The banks are clear about the fees, and the interest rates.

I was working poor for much of my life, but I have never been overdrawn, and I only paid a late fee once. I called the bank and told them I was out of the country for work, and they refunded it.

I love banks.

Millionaires and billionaires. Not just people who have a house, small property and enough to get by every month. Crooked land deals. Not talking to the everyday people who have some assets but the filthy that got there by doing things bypassed by crooked judges, lawyers and banks. It's not a beef I have but an observation.

My thoughts exactly. The cost of that tourist's holiday could be more than the Thai guy earns in a year. Disgusting thief.
