Suspicious $4m Bitcoin Transfer After Brit’s Pattaya Death

Featured Replies

The son of late millionaire Quentin Griffiths has filed a police report alleging that more than $4 million in bitcoin was transferred from his father’s wallet shortly after his death in Pattaya. The alleged unauthorised transactions are now under investigation by Thai authorities. The details emerged during a child custody hearing in Chonburi on Tuesday 28 April, adding a financial dispute to an already complex family case.

Mr Griffiths reportedly fell from his 17th-floor condominium in Pattaya in February during a legal dispute that had resulted in an 18-month prison sentence. According to reports, three separate transfers were made from his cryptocurrency account within days of his death, moving funds to an unknown destination. His eldest son, Joel, reported the incident to police six weeks after the death.

Lawyers representing Mr Griffiths’ family claim the transfers could only have been carried out by someone with close knowledge of his private passwords. The legal team for his former partner, Ploy, has disputed aspects of the claim, while the missing funds have become part of a wider legal battle. That dispute centres on the future of the couple’s two children, with differing views on whether they should be raised in the United Kingdom or remain in Thailand.

Family representatives are seeking to relocate the children to the UK, where they would attend school and live with grandparents and other relatives. Their mother and her legal team argue that the children should stay in Thailand, where they were born. The custody case and financial investigation are now proceeding in parallel.

Mr Griffiths had previously been under investigation for alleged fraud and was involved in multiple legal proceedings and family property disputes at the time of his death. The reported bitcoin transfers have intensified scrutiny of his financial affairs and raised questions about access to his digital assets. Authorities have not yet confirmed who may be responsible for the transactions.

The Sun reported that Thai police are continuing their investigation into the alleged theft and the movement of the cryptocurrency funds. The outcome of the custody dispute and the financial inquiry could have significant implications for the family’s future arrangements. Both cases remain ongoing.

Inside job for sure. No keys no access to wallet. Also every bitcoin transaction has a sent to address that can be confirmed. Although this does not identify anyone..... it does specify the address destination.

Well let’s see how many people would’ve had his password like his wife TIT

The legal team for his former partner, Ploy

Seems like the name fits.

Interesting. I thought it was untraceable.

Lo and behold............a guy who has plenty of cake, things going good decides to take a dive off the 17th floor.

Why?

Cuz the local promised the locals a cut.

RIP Mr. Griffiths should have bailed long before the Mrs. had you offfed.

This storey has more twists and turns in it than the F1 race track at Le mans. Yes , this was a good Ploy of hers help him fall off the balcony and get all his cryptos but she must have had some assistance with that from an expert in the field.

Transactions are public information, but they only reveal the wallet and not the person who owns it. However, if the recipient is using something like Coinbase (which has KYC) to manage their crypto transactions, then Coinbase will reveal the name of the wallet-holder if there is a government request.

You can send it to anonymous places, but it takes a little more knowledge and effort for the recipient to set it up.

She probably snatched wallet out of his back pocket as he fell.

I can set up timed transactions for a later date on my bank account. Can that be done with these type of transactions?

Are yu referring to the 17th storey from which he fell/jumped?

And there is no F1 at Le Mans, only 24 Hours race.

Agree with your words about Mrs Ploy.

Doesn't pass the smell test plus the optics of those around him don't look good at all, and then $4 million does a Houdini a few days after his death.... dodgy as you like and only a few people could have arranged that so swiftly.

And on top of that, another of these cases of the person "fell" from high up... really. Reminds me of the sort of story you hear in Russia about a rich guy having a "boating accident" etc.

Either the chap was careless with his seed-phrase or it's a case of a "$5 wrench attack"......beat the the keys out of the guy before sending him over the balcony.....geezes!

With already legal issues before his death, i wouldn't be so hasty to blame her.

Had an 18 month prison sentence hanging over him then after he dies money gets transferred from his crypto.

Maybe he's not dead it's all a scam and he's paying his accomplices off.

Under the circumstances if I were a police detective I would immediately presume that it was not suicide after all.

From an earlier article: Police said they were called to the death at 10.30pm on February 9 and investigation found the apartment door was locked from the inside and CCTV checks showed Griffiths was the only person who entered the room before his death. Officers found two opened bottles of wine and a bottle of water inside the condo. A police source said: “The only person who went into the room was Quentin, so we do not believe there was anything suspicious.”

I think Scotland Yard would refer to that as a very deep dive into forensic analysis.

I think you mean F1’s Nürburgring Nordschleife, with its 73 corners & 157 bends. 🤔

It's always easiest to blame the missus, esp if she's Thai.

If the family has any consideration at all, the Mum should go with the kids. Seems like the guy had money so no problem to travel back and forth. All the Thai hi-so kids do that.

A very messy situation and of course large amounts of money give lots of people a reason to get involved

Reminds me of a case I had where the very wealthy man died in a genuine but totally unforeseen accident- and 5 mistresses all younger than his daughters appeared out of the woodwork!

Maybe this neat wrap up explains where the crypto went?

About this 'condo door locked from the inside' we see after many balcony falls .... can't most condo doors be locked from outside or inside? Mine has two locks, one can be locked by pressing a button then pulling the door closed from outside, the other is locked by a key from outside or a latch from inside.

Unless it was a sliding bolt and they had break the door to enter, this phrase is meaningless.

But as mentioned by another poster, could have been a delayed payment set up before his death, maybe to his favourite girlfriends.

"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a man in Thailand in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of several wives"

My girlfriend doesn't even know I have bitcoin. I've never mentioned the word bitcoin to her once, even though it constitutes over 90% of my net worth.

Holding bitcoin is like being in Fight Club.

Who got the password got access to the wallet.

So what?

"This storey has more twists and turns..." [sic]

There is no F1 race track at Le Mans so there can be no twists and turns in this "storey" [sic] although he may well have briefly twisted and turned during his fall from the 17th storey.
