Krabi's Tsunami Affected Areas

Featured Replies

Would like to go for a longer trip up to 12 month to Kabi Town and Ao Nang does someone know which part of this region was affected by the tsunami?

Thanks for your help.

Mainland (coastal) Krabi was hardly affected by the tsunami. Beach areas such as Ao Nang and Railey sustained very little damage and were cleaned up of debris within days. The islands of Koh Phi Phi and Koh Jum (which belong to Krabi Province) were affected, though. Phi Phi was one of the worst-hit in Thailand with a great deal of damage and loss of life. It's long been cleaned up and mostly rebuilt. Some resorts on Koh Jum were smashed quite badly but they've all been rebuilt now. In general, unless you know where to look, you won't see any effects of the tsunami.
