President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced efforts to clear major roads in Albay, Philippines, following ashfall from Mayon Volcano to facilitate aid delivery. The operation aims to reopen thoroughfares, allowing movement in and out of affected areas, provided the volcano's activity subsides. Ensuring medical supplies and protective masks are distributed is part of the ongoing response to urgent health concerns.

Mayon Volcano, exhibiting intense strombolian eruptions and pyroclastic flows, led to the evacuation of 1,438 families, according to the Office of Civil Defense's Region V report. Over 102,406 individuals across 87 barangays have been impacted. The situation has prompted the government to maintain Alert Level 3, requiring residents within a six-kilometer radius to evacuate immediately due to elevated volcanic unrest.

Officials strive to meet Albay's needs, receiving assurance from the local governor. The Department of Health has actively distributed masks to prevent respiratory issues from ash inhalation. Marcos refers to clearing the main roads and maintaining open communication with the governor to monitor and respond to evolving needs.

Looking forward, efforts will focus on continued evaluation of volcanic activity by Phivolcs. The aim is to sustain public safety measures and maintain road access for effective aid delivery. The government will monitor evacuation procedures and health support for displaced residents over the following days.
