Orbán Era Crashes Down: Péter Magyar 'I will serve my country'

Orbán Era Crashes Down as Péter Magyar is Installed as PM and vows to 'Serve My Country'

Peter Magyar.jpg

Péter Magyar was sworn in as Hungary’s new prime minister in a political earthquake that shattered the long rule of Viktor Orbán and left the once-dominant Fidesz machine in ruins.

Speaking before parliament in Budapest, Magyar vowed to govern as a servant of the people rather than a ruler.

“I will not rule over Hungary — I will serve my country,” he declared after taking the oath of office.

The dramatic victory marks one of the biggest political upsets Europe has seen in years. Magyar’s Tisza Party — founded just two years ago — stormed to 141 seats in Hungary’s 199-member parliament after previously having no representation at all.

Orbán’s governing Fidesz suffered a catastrophic collapse, plunging from 135 seats to just 52 and ending more than a decade of near-total dominance over Hungarian politics.

Budapest Celebrates ‘Gateway Of Regime Change’

Thousands gathered outside parliament along the Danube for what organisers called a “celebration of freedom and democracy.”

Magyar framed the victory as a clean break from the Orbán era, urging Hungarians to walk through what he described as a “gateway of regime change.”

The defeat appears to have shaken Fidesz to its core. Orbán and several senior party figures reportedly chose not to even take their seats in the new parliament as the battered party retreats to regroup.

The outgoing government had dominated Hungary since 2010, building a powerful political and media machine while repeatedly clashing with the European Union over rule-of-law concerns, migration policy and accusations of democratic backsliding.

Corruption Probes Loom Over Former Government

The new administration says it intends not only to replace the old leadership but dismantle the political system Orbán built.

Incoming minister Zoltán Tarr said the government’s immediate task was to “set up the government on the ruins of the previous one.”

Officials claim they are inheriting a potentially dire financial situation after heavy spending by the previous administration during its final months in power.

Attention is also turning toward alleged corruption networks tied to the former government. Authorities are already examining claims involving state contracts, media operations and public funds allegedly funnelled toward pro-Fidesz interests.

One investigation reportedly centres on businessman Gyula Balásy, whose companies received lucrative government contracts while running aggressive pro-government campaigns targeting figures including George Soros, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Magyar himself.

The incoming administration also plans to establish a special office dedicated to recovering allegedly misused public assets.

EU Showdown Still Looms

Despite the celebrations, the new government faces immediate pressure from European Union officials.

Around €17 billion in EU funding remains frozen following years of disputes with Orbán’s government over judicial independence, migration policy and democratic standards.

Hungary is also under mounting pressure over EU migration rules and faces daily fines of €1 million linked to rulings by the European Court of Justice.

Magyar’s government says it hopes to repair relations with Brussels while still addressing domestic concerns over migration, Ukraine’s potential EU membership and Hungary’s continued dependence on Russian energy.

For now, though, the dominant image is unmistakable: after more than a decade as Europe’s nationalist strongman, Orbán’s political empire has suffered a stunning collapse.

Well if Hungarians voted for population replacement and to suck up to the failed Euro project, up to them as they say.

However this Magyar does not appear a complete fool, and he must understand the safety and future of Hungarians is more important than getting attaboys from Soros and the lefty elite.

Jury is out here....

I heard the same thing. Also heard he may be taking along some of his oligarch criminal buddies.

I had thought he would flee to Russia, but it's a sad commentary that to today's fascist criminal scum, the USA works the same for them.

OK.

Well I'm sure he has enemies.

However, his party won a super majority.

I don't think losing him would kill his movement.
