Annual extension of Non-O (marriage) in Chiang Mai

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

we moved recently to C. Mai from Bangkok and I would like to know if there are any differences in the requirements for the above mentioned extension.

  1. Online appointment necessary or can I just walk-in (same as Immigration BKK/C. Wattana) approx. 30 days before the expiration date of the visa?

  1. Any difference in the necessary paperwork etc?

Appreciate helpful information.

CM accept walk ins.

When I cannot obtain appointment at CW.... I arrive just prior to lunch break (12-1pm) and obtain queue #

Attend to some photo copying etc.

Note both CW and CM you can apply for extension up to 45 days prior to expiry.

Window of extension appointments is 30 days in advance.

Chiang Mai Immigration office doesn't have online queuing for marriage extensions (it's not a choice on their booking site)

you just queue up and wait it out with the zombie horde 😆

As was pointed out in C/M you can apply for an extension when you have 45 days or less left on your current stamp.

You can go at the information desk inside the building and ask for a list of all the required documents. They will provide you with all the forms as well.

OP and other marriage extension applicants:

I just posted a comprehensive follow-up update to my original guide. Look for the bold heading that says July 2026 update.

The paper-based process may be tedious as usual, but Chiang Mai immigration officers (mostly middle-aged women this year) are friendly, professional, patient, organized, and efficient.

The main immigration officer processing marriage visa extensions is still the same person as from 5 years ago. You'll recognize her by her blazing-fast rapid stamping and signing.
