You repeatedly ridicule and scorn and belittle your allies, then get all surprised and huffy when they don't want to support your war-of-choice aggression? Hegseth's (and his boss's) incompetence is

Correct. UK probably remembers the US being late for two world wars.

This topic keeps on coming up, why does the US seek support from other countries when they totally smashed Iran into oblivion. Maybe Maga is short on numbers for their victory p*ss up.

Venezuela was a complete success.

Trump wants to give diplomacy a chance in Iran, supposedly, or perhaps he's just giving Pete time to stock up before he starts hammering them down again. It's not over yet, so too soon to judge.

He's been very necessary to shake up the Department of War. It's highly dysfunctional and still trying to resume the search for the $2,3 trillion in taxpayer money, a search that got suddenly and violently interrupted by 9/11. Do the generals respect him? Probably not, but that reflects better on Hegseth.

Totally corrupt Guy !!!

Defense Stock Trades: Reports revealed that a broker for Hegseth contacted BlackRock in February 2025 to make a multimillion-dollar investment in a defense-industry fund, just before the U.S. military action in Iran that Hegseth championed. The transaction was flagged internally and blocked, prompting inquiries into potential insider trading and the abuse of non-public information.

Advisor Conflicts: Hegseth has faced sharp scrutiny from lawmakers regarding his special advisor, Tim Parlatore, who maintains a private law practice. Hegseth commissioned Parlatore into the Navy Reserve, reportedly bypassing standard White House vetting, leading to investigations over conflicts of interest

Oil prices were just fine before your ill considered, illegal, and frankly stupid "war". You know, the "war" you have no idea how to get out of, hence bleating for help and throwing your toys out the pram when help isn't forthcoming.

America is very very lost, and we are all laughing.

You mean 3rd world country America !!! the laughing stock on the world stage !!

The United States is not a developing nation, the notion that the U.S. is becoming a "third-world country" stems from growing socioeconomic concerns, including extreme wealth inequality, decaying infrastructure in specific regions, and high poverty rates

What a hate-filled, Trump-obsessed know-nothing you are.

He is spot on about Hegseth's service career though. And the image he picked of Hegseth posing in that cheap ill-fitting (as they all are) Thai suit is a perfect metaphor for the man.

Platoon leader at a prison, spent about 6 months as an infantry officer in Baghdad, before transferring to Civil Affairs to help run a town council in Samarra ((S-9 (Civil Affairs)). Was in the 101st, but never completed Ranger School, Airborne School, or Air Assault School. Its a mystery how he made Captain without completing at least one of those. He volunteered for Kabul, to teach COIN, though that amounted to one class. His highest level of leadership experience appears to be Platoon Leader. His most impactful job appears to be a battalion-level Civil Affairs OIC/AOIC position. He’s the guy that volunteered to be rear-D commander, but the decision authority makes him the rear-D XO because he can’t be trusted with responsibility. He's the guy that volunteers to be an infantry officer but doesn't want to do any of the "hard" schools. Not too dissimilar to Mark Francois, who's biggest challenge in the Army Catering Corps, was when they ran out of bacon.

Interresting to compared the reputed views, on war, between Hegseth and Vance. Vance is much less Gung Ho, but, then, he was never an officer. While he was a USMC journalist, he completed the same training as an Marine, had a substantive posting to Iraq, and as a military photographer likely got to see the less glamourous side of combat, plus had more contact with ordinary soldiers, in ordinary situations.

Vance is opinionated, but as an elected politician, thats what they do. I get the sense that in technical matters he knows enough to know what he doesn't know. He's never bigged up or exaggerated his service career like some.

Hegseth though is not an elected politician. He was previously employed to offer opinions, but for very different motivations. Fox News wanted an opinionated talking head to drive ratings, not to expose any kind of truth. Essentially an armchair general.

No, the United Kingdom is not a third-world country. By definition, it is a highly developed, high-income, and industrialized nation

Operation Unthinkable

https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/education/resources/cold-war-on-file/operation-unthinkable/

We conclude that:-

  • That if our political object is to be achieved with any certainty and with lasting results, the defeat of Russia in a total war will be necessary.

  • The result of a total war with Russia is not possible to forecast, but the one thing certain is that to win it would take us a very long time.

  1. It might, however, be considered, as result of a political appreciation, that a quick and limited military success would result in Russia accepting our terms.

  2. Before a decision to open hostilities were made, full account would have to taken of the following:-

  • If this appreciation is wrong and the attainment of whatever limited objective we may set ourselves does not cause Russia to submit to our terms, we may, in fact, be committed to a total war.

  • It will not be possible to limit hostilities to any particular area. While we are in progress, therefore, we must envisage a world-wide struggle.

  • Even if all goes according to plan, we shall not have achieved, from the military point of view, a lasting result. The military power of Russia will not be broken and it will be open to her to recommence the conflict at any time she sees fit.

  1. Assuming, however, that it is decided to risk military action on a limited basis, accepting the dangers set out above, we have examined what action we could take in order to inflict such a blow upon the Russians as would cause them to accept our terms, even though they would not have been decisively defeated and, from the military point of view, would still be capable of continuing the struggle.

Bit like adding Panama and Grenada to your military CV.

You honestly were in fear of the Venezuelan military, and thought there might have been a possibility they could have beaten the Gringos?

Actually, Operation Absolute Resolve was not a "complete success". The Chavista state apparatus was left mostly intact, and Maduro allies left in power. Elections haven't been scheduled, as demanded by the US. Civilians died. Tactical military success, sure, regime change success; partial. Long term strategic success; piss poor

Obviously you do not know the meaning of Developing and Developed nation !!!!

A developing nation is a country with a relatively low standard of living, an undeveloped industrial base, and a low to moderate Human Development Index (HDI) score compared to economically advanced nation

A developed nation is a sovereign state with a highly advanced economy, strong technological infrastructure, and a high standard of living

The notion that the U.S. is becoming a "third-world country" stems from growing socioeconomic concerns, including extreme wealth inequality, decaying infrastructure in specific regions, and high poverty rates

UK is already in a big mess with the billions of UK£ being squandered and given to the corrupt regime in Ukraine. Same with Germany and many other, once prosperous nations of Europe. And in the mean time all the east european countries are booming and becoming the place to be, thanks to the billions they get from other member states, via the European Union. Europe is definately doomed on the long term.

I just read the article about the Thai gangs recruiting "stupid British youth" as drug mules.

What about the country that elected the snake oil salesman con man as president twice - in the words of that great American, Forrest Gump, "stupid is, stupid does".

Then, there is the current Trump administration - the band of clowns, alcoholics and drug addicts - the ship of ignorant arrogant fools.

If you want to declare economic war on the world - global tariffs and halting critically important energy, fertilizer and medications supplies (with the support of Zionist terrorists) - how can you expect the world to respect you, Mr Hegseth?

What a lot of people don't seem to understand is that Hesgeth is a grossly unqualified individual, l a very minor former news host, who was promoted to the an incredibly powerful position of Sec Def. This man might have been qualified to lead the San Diego County of the Boy Scouts, maybe. He's in so far over his head and the man is so drunk with his new found power.

Is Hegseth a traitor? No wonder the Iran war is going so poorly. Seems like he is devoting all of this attention to making sure high ranking, very smart and accomplished women and men of color are not being promoted.

A racist? Absolutely. An abomination? Definitely. Incompetent? Definitely. A traitor? Quite possibly.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth fired Gen. Randy George, the Army’s chief of staff, on Thursday, a move that reflects growing hostility between Mr. Hegseth and the Army’s leadership, military officials said.

General George, who was appointed to his position in 2023, led the Army out of one of its worst recruiting crises in history in 2024 and more recently has pushed the service to accelerate its acquisition of cheap drones and other kinds of weapons that have come to dominate the war in Ukraine.

The tension with Mr. Hegseth was not rooted in substantive differences over the direction of the Army, military officials said. Rather it is the product of Mr. Hegseth’s long-running grievances with the Army, battles over personnel and his troubled relationship with Army Secretary Daniel P. Driscoll, the officials said. Over the last year, General George and Mr. Driscoll had formed a tight partnership, officials said.

Mr. Hegseth has also clashed in recent months with General George and Mr. Driscoll over the defense secretary’s decision to block the promotion of four Army officers to be one-star generals.

Two of the officers targeted by Mr. Hegseth are black and two are women on a promotion list that consisted of 29 other officers, most of whom are white men. Mr. Hegseth’s highly unusual decision to remove the officers prompted some senior military officials to question whether they were being singled out because of their race or gender, officials said.
