Hi All,

I'm just about to book some flights for my Girlfriend to fly from Hong Kong to Bangkok (I'll flying out from UK to meet in BK)

..Anyway was reading the terms on Thaiair and it said that the credit card holder must be traveling on either eTicket of Paper ticket.

Does anyone have experience of this, as it effectively means that the traveller needs to use their own credit card to book tickets?

..So how am I meant to buy my GF's tickets from HK to Bangkok? Don't really want to have to send money to HK so she can book direct, as I'm also booking some internal flights for us both so need to make sure everything ties up.

I'm sure I've never come across this with Virgin, BA, Qantas or Cathay; all of which I've flown with this year.

Thank for any help (typically it's a bank holiday in UK so I can't get speak to anybody at ThaiAir's UK office until Tuesday and I want to get it all nailed down ASAP!)

Dean.

Is this another of those add the final word threads..... :D:o

I am pretty certain that when using a credit card online with an airline the cardholder has to be one of the passengers and that the credit card used must be shown at the airport check-in.

Hope I guessed your query corretly. :D

It's pretty common policy for E-Ticket purchases. It makes credit card fraud way too easy if people could buy airplane tickets without showing the card at the airport.

I believe the way around this is to buy that ticket for her at your local Thai Airways office, or through a travel agent.

Before bringing her Thainess to Oz, I arranged a flight for her BKK-SIN to meet me there for afew days. As always, the hard part is trusting a company you don't know with copies of passport & CC. All went well though.

Arrangements were done by phone & email, my passport (pic page) & CC were faxed over as proof of existence, the ticket was sent to her (or she could collect it in BKK).

She should be able to find a resonably reputable agent in HK you can deal with.

Thanks, just spoke to ThaiAir and I can buy the ticket on her behalf at local Thai office.

...No doubt it's going to cost more than on-line!

No, it isn't the same. It's cross border ticketing. He's likely to be charged more.

Either way, if he's savvy at all, he'll compare the price offer by the TA link I've supplied with the offer at the THAI office.

Come back and let us know.

Well I was in the same pickle before.

What I did was make the reservation online for her, meaning a hold without payment. Then I sent a bank wire to her bank account for her to pay for the ticket in person in Hong Kong. Then she went to the Thai office and paid the bill.

Now you stated that don't want to send her the money direct. Sounds a bit like there is some trust issues there. But that's your thing to figure out.

Another tip, if your GF is working as a Domestic Helper in Hong Kong, she can go to the Thai Office in Hong Kong and book the ticket for about 1/2 to 1/3 the normal price, because of her occupation in Hong Kong. But this can only be done at the Thai Office in Hong Kong.

Good advice, should have listened first time round. Booked through www.zuji.com.hk

..They even called me on my UK mobile to confirm payment made and all Ok. GF just needs to take printout of the eTicket and photo copy of front of my Credit Card (just in case TA insist on seeing it!)

By the way, If I'd gone into ThaiAir office in London and booked it would have been almost 2.5 times the price

Thanks again

Why do people assume the worst?

..The issue is not of trust but because I need to make sure all the flights and hotel bookings are co-ordinated. I.e I've already booked my flights and can't afford to wait for a week for her to pick up some money and go to TA office and buy the tickets when I can do it all in front of the PC. (Oh and pay £25 for transfeting some money). She's not a domestic helper in HK but thanks anyway, I think I'll pretend to be a domestic helper if I can get a half price fare!! :o

Thanks, Dean.
