The book captures a 16,000 km cycling journey from France to Vietnam with his wife, Khanh Nguyen, spanning 18 countries. This adventure, which started in April 2019 and concluded in May 2020, earned accolades such as the Best Travel Book of 2022 at the Cosne-sur-Loire Book Fair and the 2023 René Caillié Prize.Get today's headlines by email Before the journey, Clemenceau was involved in business development in Southeast Asia. He had the opportunity to return to Paris for a promotion, but opted to embark on this unique journey instead, a decision that surprised his colleagues and Nguyen's family. Overcoming initial familial resistance was a significant hurdle, with his father-in-law expressing initial concern before ultimately supporting the initiative.Clemenceau and Nguyen undertook the journey to challenge themselves and to pledge $1 per kilometer to Poussières de Vie, supporting education for disadvantaged children. Despite Clemenceau’s prior experience in endurance travel, Nguyen's determination grew throughout the trip, ultimately becoming a source of encouragement for both.During their travels, Vietnamese conical hats sparked curiosity and conversations, leading to unforgettable encounters, particularly in Iran where locals warmly welcomed them. Reflecting on these experiences, Clemenceau appreciated the global kindness he encountered and acknowledged Vietnam, their new home, for its positive energy and welcoming spirit.Looking forward, Clemenceau continues to cherish these experiences and their lasting impact on his life. He often considered alternative book titles that reflect his strong connection to Vietnam, which has become his second home.Join the discussion? Adapted by ASEAN Now · VN Express · 20 May 2026
