This endeavor, funded through AIIB loans and the Vietnamese government, marks a significant phase in Hanoi's urban railway master plan. The feasibility study, launched in February 2026, focuses on environmental assessments, and resettlement strategies is projected to complete by October.The Metro 2A extension will enhance connectivity between Hanoi's center and southwestern areas, notably the Xuan Mai urban zone. The proposed line will extend approximately 20 km with 12 elevated stations and new infrastructure, running on elevated tracks along National Highway 6. It promises advancements like Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) and compatibility with the existing Cat Linh-Ha Dong Metro line.Upon completion, the extension is expected to serve 500,000 residents, mitigating traffic on National Highway 6 and decreasing congestion around Mai Linh bridge.
