Trump is ruining America's 250th Celebration

Featured Replies

It's often said and it's so true that everything Trump touches turns to the brown stuff. It takes a special kind of special to bankrupt casinos, so we were well warned.

Trump is making the 250th all about him in his now familiar American dictator cult of personality style. But by now, most American oppose him, so it's getting even weirder.

I'm old enough to have attended key events of America's bicentennial. It was truly inspiring and amazing and obviously historic! So I know how this could have been. But thanks to Trump, it will be a shambolic farce.

Trump’s 250th Celebration Is a Fiasco

The president has turned a solemn occasion into a Day of Trump.

By David Frum

“You talk too damn much, and it’s too damn much about you.”

That quote from Raymond Chandler’s The Long Goodbye is a good summary of the fiasco that Donald Trump has made of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

You might have thought that presiding over such a celebration would be an easy success for Trump. He is a showman, after all. He loves parades and extravaganzas. It was all an easy layup, a gimme, a chance for a now-unpopular second-term president to reinvent himself as the leader of all of the American people. The only thing he had to do was—for once in his life—not act like an insane egomaniac.

He couldn’t do it.

It should be a glorious celebration, I just wish I could go back to the U.S. to celebrate. I hope the treasury produces the $250 Trump bill so I can buy one. It will be worth allot of money someday.

If it wasn't for Trump they would never have defeated the British so it's only right he should take all the credit.

The MAGA set will come out and say he's the greatest thing since sliced bread, no matter what. Thoroughly brainwashed, continue to accept the right wing news telecasts as the truth.

It was better under Biden who had to navigate post Trump 1's complete failure during the pandemic. MAGA goofs will say the pandemic (7 million people died, one poster here said too bad one of those wasn't me, that's how sick these folks are) wasn't real, it was just a big scam.

It's been nearly two years under the orange clown, and when in doubt, blame it on Biden. That's the go to along with we can't let them (Iran) have a nuclear weapon, oh yea, gee shot myself in the foot again......Trump the imbecile.

What was Trump's failure during the pandemic?

IMO, Trump only failed if you are an anti-vaxxer.

How can America have a 250th birthday? It's already dead. Or at least on life support with a very poor prognosis.

The arrogance of the grifting fool is so unbeleivable, he actually thinks people like him. All his sidekicks are only in it for themselves. They not give a toss about the self proclaimed king.

There would be a lot more to celebrate now if Trump had never been born. He has done so much damage. So in a sense there is a dark logic to Trump messing up the celebration -- there isn't much to celebrate now anyway.

Sure there is, it's the 4th of July.

So what is planned? it's only a month away. The World Cup Final?

Good example of not reading the room - I would hope Democrats and Republicans alike want a celebration befitting the achievements of 250 years and not another tedious Trumpy thing culminating in one of his boring speeches.

Only as a rarity item. The way he is going the value of the USD itself will soon be down the pan.

Are you joking? He led his country to highest number of Covid-related deaths than any other - and more deaths of Americans than those who had fought in all the wars since the Revolution.

Among other things, $8,400,000,000,000 in new National Debt, a 41% increase over the previous 44 Presidents combined. That's $25,000 for every man, woman and child in the US at that time.

Now you might not be an economist, but venture a guess....might that amount not cause inflation for #46?

But wait, there's more! As #47, Trump is giving us a forever war, yet more debt, greater division, wild corruption, and the destruction of any good will the US might still have enjoyed in the world.

According to the Alliances of Democracies Foundation, an organization set up by former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the favorable view of the US has tumbled since Trump returned. In a poll of 94,000 people from around the world, the US is now at -16, vs +22 in Biden's last year. That's a Trumpian 38 point swing to the downside. Those polled also ranked the US as the 3rd greatest threat to the world, after Russia and Israel.

MAGAs might say "Who cares?", but in a world where the US needs both trading partners and funding for its massive deficits, it matters.

In his rage Tweet after even the sole surviving lipsinker of Milli Vanilli dropped out, Trump called the original concert card "Third Rate" performers. That was his show, and all he could get was Third Rate? And even the Third Rate types dropped out, save for Vanilla Ice, who said he'd sing for Putin or Iran.

It's important to note that, according to the U.S. Constitution, all spending must originate in the House of Representatives. During the COVID spending spree, the House was under Democratic control. Therefore, some of the blame for this era of excessive spending should be directed at the congressional leaders in power at the time.

Inflation began when Democrats intensified spending after the economy reopened following COVID. This has been documented in several studies.

In attempting to understand the 2022 spike in inflation that followed the pandemic, some policymakers — up to and including President Joe Biden — blamed shortages in the supply chain. But a new study shows that federal spending was the cause — significantly so.

Biden was warned by Larry Summers.

Inflation may have begun by the Democrats under Biden, but only accelerated under Trump with his mostly illegal tariffs and undeclared war on Iran.

Now Trump is back to imposing tariffs again. What a dipstick!
