Thai police from the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division (ATPD) arrested a 68‑year‑old Canadian man, identified by authorities only as James, in Prachuap Khiri Khan province on 1 June. He was wanted on a warrant issued by Sikhio Provincial Court on 22 January for the rape and sexual assault of a 15‑year‑old student. The suspect had previously been a maths teacher and assistant director at an international school in Nakhon Ratchasima.

The victim’s parents hired James to give private tuition at their home for three years, at 500 baht per hour, two hours a week. On 20 October 2025, he allegedly lured the girl into a bedroom during a lesson and forcibly raped and assaulted her.

After the attack, the teenager told her parents, who took her to Pak Chong police station. Officers seized video clips and pornographic images from the suspect’s phone.

James was granted temporary release on bail while the case was in court. He then allegedly sold personal belongings, including gold, to fund his attempted escape.

The victim’s family sought help from The HUG Project, a non‑profit that protects abused children and from ATPD police. Investigators found James hiding with a foreign friend in Prachuap Khiri Khan.

Daily News reported that during questioning, James claimed he had quarrelled with his Thai girlfriend and only wanted peace, he had not intended to flee from police. He has been handed over to Sikhio Provincial Court to face legal proceedings.

Agree. Birds of a feather flock together. The selling of assets, the hiding from police, the famous "all I want is to live is in peace", the struggling down the steps to avoid arrest ... not good optics to say the least. Not one of the sharpest tools in the toolbox if there is evidence of naked girls on his phone of former pupils.

Likely wasn't. They usually don't start at 68 years old but have been of this thinking for a very long time. People who do these types of crimes have this behavior in them as antisocial or a lack of empathy and it is possible they've either been doing it all along, or it finally emerged.

Dementia can have this happen, or they could have been fighting it for a long time. If he's been a teacher a long time, he could have been exhibiting inappropriate behavior all along, with no one coming forward or it wasn't as severe. This is always about control, and he could have been doing this in other areas before moving here.

I have a friend who has Dementia who wasn't exactly a ladies man throughout his life, not pushy towards women at all, nor suggestive, and after this started, he messaged a few ladies with very inappropriate words. His own sister thought his FB account was hacked until he was caught doing it, over 65. It's hard to tell without others coming forward from his past, or a diagnosis now.

What kind of videos and images that were found on his phone can tell more.

Poor kid. 16 years old and raped and quite possibly the first time she had sex. Raped by a disgusting old man, scares that will now follow this poor child for the rest of her life. Upside if any is the beast will never breath fresh ait again. Omg! If it had been my daughter, he would have "escaped" never to be seen again... His demise would be slow and painful. I hope the guy with him was the guy who informed the police.

Pedophilia involves prepubescent children, not teens old enough to drive a car. The situation is tragic enough without embellishment.

And since nobody has said it, you don't hear much about Canadians in the crime section, but when you do it's almost always this type of thing or worse, like involving young children.

My ex-wife was married to a guy from Seattle.She went there a couple of times.He had learned thai in a language school in Pattaya.Study 3 years.He spoke and read/write thai fluent.My ex went a trip alone from Pattaya to surin visit her family for a week.When she returned to their apartment in Pattaya she found something that he had try to hide for her.Anyway she moved out the same day and divorced him.I asked her several times what she discovered but she never told me.I meet him a couple of times and we had a beer together.A couple of weeks later my ex told me that her ex and a guy from Finland been arrested in Pattaya.The police catched them making sexmovies with underage girls age 14-15 years old.They went to jail and later to court and sentenced to long prison time.He contacted my ex-wife and told her she get all his furnitures and other things from his apartment.We rented a truck from surin and brought it there.Her ex-husband was also wanted for sexcrimes in USA so after some years in thai prison FBI brought him back to USA facing charges there too.

ACTUALLY 4 GUYS WAS ARRESTED.They found about 300 DVDs where they molested the young gils 13-15 years old.
