Issue with anti-virus and banking app

Featured Replies

I just installed free Bitdefender Security on my and my wife's phones and neither her or my banking apps would open, saying it wasn't safe with the new app installed. I tried turning off as many functions as AI suggested and even force stopped the Bitdefender app, but to no avail. I had to uninstall Bitdefender to regain access to the banking app.

Surely there must be a way to have an anti-virus installed while also using a banking app?

I also run a VPN (Nord) but that doesn't affect the banking app.

I had the same issue previously with Norton Antivirus which I do not longer use. You have to check the permissions of the app in settings. I cannot recall which one it was exactly but the banking apps do not allow other apps having access or read any data within banking.

I am surprised as some banking apps seemingly protest if you have a vpn working - SCB being one.

I tried switching off function after function, and I also did force stop it, but nothing short of a complete deletion worked.

Can I ask you if you've found an anti-virus app that does work with Thai banking apps?

I have installed Malwarebytes instead of an anti-virus app without problems. The virus risk on a phone is very low except you click on external links.

And TTB.

I've had AVG mobile security suite installed on all my devices (iPad & iPhone) for several years and have had no issues whatsoever with my BKk bank apps...

How long ago was this? As banking apps had a lot of security updates recently it might not work anymore at present. Might or might not anymore.

And UOB. I fail to see the logic in that.

Try reinstalling the banking apps after Bitdefender.

  1. Settings, Apps, (Banking App), clear data, then uninstall.

  2. Then reinstall the banking apps.

  3. Bitdefender scans all apps and should configure it to allow connections if prompted.

Indeed. I had always thought that if I ever need to use the account outside the country it could be done with the VPN but not now with the app the only option.

I don't think there is so much a problem now in that respect as I now have the international TTB card. They gave me a long list of what could be done with the card but too much to wade through. I carry it when outside the country in case something comes up.
