The new Emoji QuestionMark Reaction

If someone actually has something valid to say then they can text out their thoughts. Placing a candy wrapper icon at the bottom of a post offers no thought value. In any case it seems that the value of the forum’s trajectory should lean from neutral to positive, from top to bottom given that some between both ends have trouble exercising.

Dear Folks, Very unfortunately, and quite unexpectedly, my Original Topic has been marked as UNCLEAR by means of an anonymous Question-Mark Emoji. After a re-analysis of the my text in the Original

Some people waffle on and get lost in a bog of words, the question mark would be ideal there

I read many comments which are incoherent, some are disjointed and unintelligible. Maybe it's because these guys have had too many beers.

When did you read them?

YOU, SIR, are being EXTREMELY UNCLEAR.

Do you mean to say: I HAVE READ MANY comments?

Do you mean to say: I read many comments?

The MEANING of these two statement, as I say, is not equivalent.

BE CLEAR, SIR....PLEASE.....!!!!!

Congratulation, you got my first question mark. 😁

How would the author know that this was, indeed, the objection, unless it werer explained?

Otherwise, it might be a grammar issue, or one of many other issues causing confusion.

It might even be due to improper use of .....SEMIOTICS.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes.

I agree.

The final sentence in the Original Topic, due to a typo, is actually NOT CLEAR.

Let me correct it, since I received 3 UNCLEAR Emoji.....

UNCLEAR ORIGINAL: Seems that this slightly questionable and ambiguous QuestionMark Emoji, the one which is anonymous and provides no information concerning what the exact cause of the unclarity might be.

REVISION for CLARITY: Seems that this slightly questionable and ambiguous QuestionMark Emoji, the one which is anonymous and provides no information concerning what the exact cause of the unclarity might be, will have mostly negative consequences for everyone.

There, it is now clear.

How would this be even possible if such "someone" can neither read nor write in English?

Enjoy while ye may.

And, please do not spend all your QUESTION-MARKS in one place, or in one go.

As for me, I intend to collect mine.

As to why I marked your comment UNCLEAR, in words, I will explain the grammar to you, in due course.

Meanwhile, I am very sure others here will be able to do so, if they think to do so, before I get back to you.

Exactly, how would they know what it is that they’re referring to in the first place?

Anyway, the bubblegum wrapper icons are easily enough to ignore along with some of the perceived disconcerting text. After all, it’s just a minor mind over matter thing. Gotta wonder if some folks have a deck of emoji stickers in their library and place one at the end of each paragraph in all their books.

Yes.

I totally agree.

Let's Give the guys who use the Thumbs Down Emoji their due....

Which is to out guys who use this useless Emoji.

Nothing good about it, really.

If they have the time to bless us with a Thumbs-Down....

Then, the very least they can do, and what is our due....is for them to ....

Explain Themselves....

Doing so would actually provide a bit of CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM....rather than the present kind of.....

HIT AND RUN.....

Which we have been experiencing for quite some time.

Please do not add a question-mark Emoji, signifying "UNCLEAR", unless you are asking for further clarification.

I'm using the question mark to highlight - "what a load of inane bo!!ox"...

I suspect most others are too when it comes to the utter bumf you peddle.

Just for you:

I know how to hover, Sir.

But, this might not solve the problem suggested in this Glorious Topic of mine.

I am, of course, as usual, writing in all sincerity, and especially in this case.

If and when I receive an UNCLEAR remark, then I feel compelled to clarify, as any good author should.

But, also, this does NOT imply that I think that I am a good writer, and quite to the contrary.

I hope this comment is clear, and needs no further clarification....however....

I am sure I will receive just one more QUESTION-MARK Emoji, from some here, for my meger efforts.

Alas....what is a mediocre author to do, I wonder......

I think keep the positive ones, and the question mark, and delete the negatives,. This way if someone is just trolling, they'll have to expose themselves by words, or make a rebuttal to what you wrote by words also. Less work cleaning things up for the mods, and those butt hurt can't lower another's reputation just because you made them look silly before.

The question mark can stay if someone either doesn't understand what's written, or thinks it's incoherent, but it doesn't lower a reputation if the language barrier is there, and if they want things explained better, they can still ask the poster without using the question mark.

Some Snowflakes as joebloggs likes to tell us get upset when a coward puts a red thumb up. i tell the person who i give a red thumb to. Only the cowards that hide behind the keyboard red thumb, then quickly disapear before there identified.

No, wish as you may, but no blue waffles today.

However, it is telling that they had to turn the red thumbs down to blue. I imagine there was just too great a pain for several members.

This place will never cease to amaze me in showing just how dysfunctional people really are

Your comment is entirely clear.
However, would you say it is nonsensical?

Not any more so than any of your claptrap posts. The only intent is to mirror your style, but with a bit more coherency.

Perhaps words like childish or immature would also fit your description well. I would actually enjoy seeing the whole emoji function removed. It would give all the moaners one less thing to whinge about.

In this case, would you not say that the QuestionMark Emoji might be redundant, and also ambiguos?

You have made your analysis clear, using English, from the beginning.

Therefore, is it really warranted to use redundant ambiguous symbols to convey that which you have previously communicated so clearly?

Still....Have Fun....if you will.

I do not mind, as you know.

You're obsessed. I do give them occasionally but always say so if you ask, and explain why. You know other people disagree with your posts too, right? And a down vote means "I disagree", or "that's wrong" but I don't have time to write a full post, or I've already said it in an earlier post.

People need to stop being upset by them.

OK, you got Admin attention -

  1. NO anonymity will not be removed- experience tells us that it leads to revenge-style activity.

  2. Thumbs down now Blue - less noticeable - less impact - takes the heat out of the revenge weaponization its mostly used for.

  3. The main issue is and always has been the work these things create for moderators because they are weaponized repeatedly.

My personal opinion is I would remove them completely; they cause too many problems.

Do you want them removed? if not why do you want them ? why are they important to you ?

Ok, if you are seeking opinions...

1. Fair enough. But I find it incredible that grown adults weaponise emojis. And even more so that it upsets people. Ho hum.

I'm for keeping them. Sometimes you don't have time to sit down and write a detailed post so you can leave an emoji that says "thanks", "I agree", or "I disagree" / "That's wrong".

When I get a thumbs down I don't expect anyone to write with an explanation of why they clicked it, they just disagreed with my post. Fine. That's exactly what it's there for - you get an indication of how many people agree or disagree with you. Why does that cause so much angst for some people? They really need thicker skins if they are going in to enter in to debates or discussions - not everyone is going to agree with you all the time.

And the posters who get upset about an anonymous thumbs down never ask people to write with an explanation of why they got a thumbs up. Logically the same argument should apply, no?

My only request is to swap the question mark back for the old confused one. That is just perfect and fitting for certain posts. It basically means "what the hell are you talking about?"

Yep, remove them for a month to trial it, it might make people post more rather than just a lazy emoji

Well then perhaps you should first learn not to let anything mess with your Zen.

Bring back to the confused emoji, that was perfect.

And make them non-anonymous so we don't have constant posts from snowflakes complaining about getting a thumbs down or - now - a question mark.

I think the "Unclear" is a good replacement for "Confused"

But I totally agree about making them attributable. I've been asking for that for some time.

IMO, reactions should be the same as comments / quotes - we should all be able to see each others thinking.
