US backs $100m boost for Cambodia airport

Cambodia’s Techo International Airport has secured a major financial commitment from Washington, with the United States International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) approving $100 million to support its expansion.

The deal, announced after more than two years of due diligence, marks a significant endorsement of the project and of local developer OCIC, part of Canadia Group.

Assessments covered feasibility, technical operations, and environmental and social impacts, with final steps still subject to congressional notification before closing.

For Cambodia, the investment signals growing confidence in its aviation infrastructure. Techo International Airport is seen as a critical hub for trade, tourism and connectivity, and the financing reflects US interest in strengthening ties with the Kingdom.

Canadia Group and OCIC chairman Dr Pung Kheav Se welcomed the partnership, calling it “a shared commitment between Cambodia and the United States toward developing infrastructure that supports growth, and enhances connectivity with the region and the world.”

DFC echoed that sentiment, stressing the project’s role in promoting economic opportunities and underlining its mission to unleash capital and expertise in support of strategic infrastructure.

The financing builds on years of engagement between Cambodian institutions and American companies, including General Electric, Caterpillar and Apple, alongside the US Embassy and the American Chamber of Commerce in Phnom Penh.

By bringing together Cambodian and US partners, the deal is expected to advance long-term economic development, while positioning Techo International Airport as a gateway for investment and regional integration.

Techo International Airport

To be renamed Trump Techo International Airport so he can collect copyright fees?

The Chinese military will surely appreciate the updated airport as in the naval base.
