I like Pic's crunchy style, Dalfours Strawberry (or others) Jelly and Sprouted Grain bread in the mornings. Healthy and filling.

Although in the western counties it is checked for. I am not so sure about the Thai product.

  1. AFLATOXINS

Peanuts and Peanut Butter are high in aflatoxins. As stated by the FDA, aflatoxins are naturally occurring toxic byproducts of a fungal metabolism by the members of Aspergillus family. Even in moderate concentration aflatoxins can cause cirrhosis, hepatitis B, and may lead to the development of carcinoma of the liver.

There is an Australian brand with a red lettering. A pretty good choice. I get the roasted peanut kind, it definitely adds to the flavor. I’ll look at what the brand name is when I get home.

I estimate that I’ve eaten 10,000 peanut butter sandwiches in my lifetime. It’s healthy fat and has a bit of protein. I think of the drab puritan denying himself a tablespoon of sumptuous peanut butter and it delights me.

I don’t eat white bread, but white bread and peanut butter and jelly is one of the greatest food combinations of all time. I put a little crushed chili on my sandwiches too. Or sometimes a drizzle of yellow Sri Racha. A sliced banana once in a while. Or avocado.

Peanut butter on chicken is basically chicken satay. I eat that about once a week.

They are definitely a concern, so buying peanut better from a source that is tested, like the US FDA. Pic's in New Zealand is also tested, which is another reason I buy from there, although not cheap. Storing opened peanut butter in the fridge is better also, even though it stays stiff, so mold doesn't get a chance to grow after opening.

Natural peanut butter is a much better choice than the regular store bought varieties, as I'm sure you know. My aunt used to feed her three kids, my cousins, peanut butter sandwiches all the time. They all grew up overweight, and the two living still are. White bread, peanut butter and jelly sure does taste good, but I gave white bread and regular peanut butter up long ago in favor of natural and whole grain breads.

It's more than a bit. It's 28% by volume. That's more than any other nut and it's not even a nut. From purely a protein standpoint, all nuts are inferior to peanuts.

In USA, use to buy Smucker's Natural ... with 2 ingredients, peanuts & salt

TH, before making our own, JIF creamy, having 4 ingredients I don't want or need.

I have about 4 tablespoons a week of sugar-free, palm oil free natural peanut butter.

It gives me a sense of luxury and saeity. It’s better than a Magnum bar.

Every morsel I put in my mouth does not have to be 100% optimized for nutrition. I can just eat things that are broadly good or neutral. Some people here are bordering on having an eating disorder.

I would want to know that the peanuts need not further cleaning.

Or, do you buy the pre-shelled peanuts???

One woman told me that those peanuts are only for cooking purposes, for example.

Just put them in a regular blender. Don't need any attachments. If the peanuts are fresh then they will create their own oil. If the peanuts are too stale then adding oil may not work.

I enjoy peanut butter and a banana spread on toast. One thing though I can't stand that Farm House gunk, I buy sour dough bread from Harrys Bakery Soi Buakhaow, 100 meters from the market.

In moderation yes but from my personal experience, I blow past the good for you level a few weeks after stocking peanut butter. Too easy considering the density of fats and carbs. 50-100 grams a day would OK but never works out that way.

Takes will power to stop at a couple of spoonfuls. The same with actual nuts, which are very good for you but high in fats.

Power to weight ratio is king for me and dense carb foods wreck getting good ratios for me. Some just have more control than me but knowing your weaknesses is good.

Yep. you just need to find what you can and can't eat and stay away from those you can't, or at least minimize the amounts. I've always loved cabs like pasta, cereals, bread and rice, plus starchy veggies, so I've had to lower the portion sizes as I aged.

I've found the PERFECT p.b.! Sunshine Market, a natural foods outlet on Sukhumvit 20, makes their own. Not sure where the peanuts come from, though!

1kg tubs of creamy or crunchy, they may have smaller jars or you could taste at the store. Heaven! Their almond butter is good, too, but drier.

Rice is a big one because we eat more of that carb than anything else, brown or white, doesn't matter. Peanuts and p.b. are second on that long list.

Corn and wheat; pistachios, Brazil nuts, walnuts, and almonds; dried chili peppers, black pepper, coriander, turmeric; all dried fruits. Even milk, cheese and yogurt because the animals eat contaminated feed.

Can't avoid it, life is life. Just adding a sour note to your Sunday!

I eat Skippy Extra Crunchy. It's fine for an occasional sandwich, or a spoonful because I'm in the mood. And btw - I like the taste of dry-roasted Thai peanuts better than Planters which are generally oily and salty.

OP's on this crusade to find tastiest store bought peanut butter, but nothing compares to home made, also a fraction of the cost.

One of the biggest reasons Thailand has such a high liver cancer rate is eating raw fish in Som Tam. Especially in Isaan. A friend here's wife died from it, and ate it all the time. Aflatoxin and hepatitis B also high here. The peanuts, corn and chilies yes, another huge reason for that aflatoxin.

Most almonds worldwide are grown in California, though that may not be the case with climate change. On one epic coastal drive, I pulled into a farm road to sleep and, when I woke, the air was filled with the perfume of almond flowers!

The Lazada store is interesting with strange, maybe useful, packaging. Sadly, can't avoid plastic. Do you know that the cashew butter comes from Thailand? I only see one organic brand, Rawganiq, based in Thailand. Cashews have far less oil content that peanuts.

I've tried pistachio, pumpkin seed, sunflower seed, Brazil nut butters. None grab me the way p.b. does!

I had no idea about the raw fish causing liver cancer.

It's obviously uncooked fish?

Commercial brands often screen for aflatoxin.

The wet peanuts are the worst, I would guess perfect environment for mold to grow on hot & wet. They eat wet peanuts in the American south, no wonder they're so unhealthy, too.

I'd say go with Jif or Skippy with international testing standards

Or go with homemade peanut butter where you throw the batch into the freezer before sending off a sample of the peanuts to a lab to test for aflatoxin and if it tests positive be willing to throw out the whole batch at a total loss.
