I can't imagine wearing those in the Thai heat and humidity.

I used to wear Swedish Arbetsshorts in Sabah. Borrowed a pair from the Swedish contractor and got 3 pairs made by a local tailor. They have very slick pockets that swivel when one sits down and when empty can be hidden inside.

Does Swedish count as Viking?
