There are people on the Aseannow forum who wouldnt have even been born if the Japanese had had their way. Hirohito should have been executed.

There was no monarchy in Thailand during the Japanese occupation. However, the Japanese didn't mess with our Royals, the symbol of our peoples, so why should we add that insult to any other race?!?

Because Japan waged war "In the Name of the Emperor." If you are suggesting that Hirohito was innocent, I would have to disagree.

To some degree it was the wars that brought the advancement of human civilization to this point in history. No, not at all. Though humans have advanced technologically, human nature hasn’t budged one

The island of Japan was blockaded, and the military-controlled government would not surrender. The military wanted to fight to the end, and the people were starving. The bomb ended the war.

No - but it was the propaganda that was used to keep Truman from being hung like the Nazis at Nuremberg especially considering that 90% of the death were civilians. Curtis Lemay summed it up concise

It's what the US did at Abu Ghraib, CIA black sites and Guantanamo.

Its a cruel world, sadly.

Many seem to think nuking Japan ended the war faster. Perhaps it did. That's how history recorded it.

Thank goodness a liberal left wing Democrat President was in charge and knew how to deal with the Japanese eh?

After the second bomb was dropped, Japan recognized the situation and surrendered.

The point you mention, "allow the Japanese to walk away with no consequences", sounds like dropping the Bomb was an act of revenge for the war.

No. It is called, holding people accountable. It was not revenge to expect that Japan would have to withdraw from all occupied countries and to account for the POWS. Nor was it revenge to require Japan to offer a form of redress to the people who it had harmed. The Japanese had offered a cessation of the war, and refused to take responsibility for their diabolical actions in Korea, China and elsewhere. The unconditional surrender of Japan was necessary to ensure that all Japanese troops would lay down arms. As it was, multiple units did not surrender quietly. You do know that the Japanese military in China did not officially surrender for over a month. don't you, or has an elderly white male superiority complex blinded you to that? The Japanese only surrendered on October 10, 1945. There were 47 divisions in China prepared to fight until they were killed. Perhaps, you don't believe that Chinese lives were worth saving?

"I'm only a shadow of my former self " exclaimed the Japanese at Hiroshima.

It's a bogus question.

No such thing as nuclear weapons.

💥 💯0% 💥

Thanks for setting us all straight. There are on nuclear weapons, the earth is flat and the moon is made out of cheese.

Agree. But few Japanese are still alive who witnessed WWII. (Sorry, can't help myself!) It's exactly like Israelis forgetting the Holocaust except as an abstract concept.

Many Japanese pols want to rearm and the US arms companies will be happy to oblige.

About 10% of Japan's population is older than 80 (~13 million people) and went through the war as kids. 30% of the population is above 65 and grew up in post-war Japan even if they did not experience it first hand. I don't think it's accurate to say they have forgotten it just yet.

As far as Israel goes- it's literally impossible to forget as the education system shoves it in your face, you study it in graphic detail, and school trips to the holocaust museum and such are common. You can't grow up in Israel and forget about the holocaust - it's impossible.

It's true that Japan has seen a rise in nationalism and a push to break with pacifism, but this is not because they forgot about what made them pacifist - it's due to the rising preceived threats from China and North Korea, as well as a reluctance to continue to rely on the US completely for defense. It's more a matter of the Japanese wanting to be able to defend themselves on their own and deter aggressors like China (also about Taiwan).
