Trump's Health Back In Spotlight After Fresh Calls For White House Transparency

Congressman Claims President Is 'Not Well'

Donald Trump's health has come under renewed scrutiny after Democratic Congressman Ted Lieu claimed the President was showing signs of physical and cognitive decline and demanded greater transparency from the White House.

Speaking after a PBS News segment discussing the issue, Lieu argued that Americans deserved answers about Trump's medical appointments and the cognitive assessments he has reportedly undergone since returning to office.

NBA Finals Appearance Sparks Fresh Debate

The controversy intensified after Trump attended the NBA Finals, becoming the first sitting US president to do so.

However, attention quickly shifted away from the game and onto the president himself after footage circulated online appearing to show him dozing off during the event. His appearance also drew loud boos from sections of the crowd.

The incident reignited debate over Trump's fitness for office just months before the midterm election campaign begins in earnest.

Critics Point To Multiple Public Incidents

Lieu claimed the NBA Finals appearance was not an isolated incident.

"The President of the United States is not well. We can see it with our own eyes," he said.

The congressman alleged Trump had appeared to fall asleep during cabinet meetings, White House events and a Memorial Day ceremony, arguing that the public deserved a full explanation of the president's health status.

Social Media Users Weigh In

The comments triggered strong reactions online, with critics arguing that concerns about a president's health should be treated as a national security issue regardless of party politics.

Some pointed out the irony that Trump frequently mocked former President Joe Biden with the nickname "Sleepy Joe" during previous election campaigns.

Others questioned how anyone could appear drowsy during a loud and high-energy NBA Finals game.

White House Allies Reject Claims

Trump's supporters have strongly pushed back against suggestions that the president is suffering from health problems.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio dismissed the allegations during a congressional hearing, insisting he had never seen Trump fall asleep.

Rubio instead claimed the opposite was true, joking that Trump often calls him during the early hours of the morning.

"I've never seen him fall asleep," Rubio said. "The guy doesn't sleep."

Medical Questions Continue To Follow President

Questions surrounding Trump's health have persisted throughout his second term.

The 79-year-old has undergone several publicly disclosed medical evaluations since returning to the White House in 2025, significantly more than many recent presidents.

While critics argue the administration should release more detailed information, Trump allies insist he remains fully capable of carrying out the duties of the presidency and point to his demanding travel and public appearance schedule as evidence of his fitness for office.
