June 16Jun 16 My friend ( i know again but not me ) has great residency benefits ( beyond what most former employees can ever expect ) and is thinking to reestablish his residency in his home country at 70 years old. He has the 800,000 in a Thai bank account and is concerned where that leaves him in the Thai banking system if he doesn't renew his MENON O in December. He has a Condo in Jomptien to dispose of in the near future. Thanks in advance for accurate information.

Most likely he has an extension based on retirement from a Non O. He wants to exit Thailand that's no problem.. If not renewing his extension then he can just withdraw funds when he wants. BTW: don't understand the "transitioning" to METV. METV is a tourist visa perhaps he may use in future to visit Thailand. He would apply for that outside of Thailand
June 16Jun 16 Author Sorry Dr. Jack. Thought I covered all the bases but yes he has been renewing his retirement extension of stay for a few years now in December. He might not make it back to Thailand this year by then due to family circumstances coupled with extemely good private / public health coverage based on residency in his home country. His concern is the latest Thai clamp down on foreigners with Thai bank accounts if he gives up the extension of stay and returns early next year with only a METV because from now on he will probably only visit Thai 5 months a year at most. Your reply suggests his banking will not be affected. If this is not correct please advise. Thank you again.

That aside if your friend plans to continue ongoing stays (5months/year) in Thailand then best option IMO is to continue with annual extensions as he has been doing in the past. He would obviously buy a multi reentry permit. In that way he could visit Thailand as offer as he wants.
