Israel sees Trump’s deal a ““diplomatic Oct. 7”

Israel Can’t Believe Trump’s Total “Capitulation” in Iran Deal

Trump’s memorandum of understanding has left those in Israel gobsmacked.

Malcolm Ferguson

The New Republic: 18 Jun 2026

“Iran came out stronger, and I believe is now the regional hegemon,” former Israeli deputy national security adviser Chuck Freilich said. “They stood up to the U.S., the global superpower. They can have missiles, and there’s nothing in the agreement about the nuclear issue except [that] we’ll talk about it. This is an Iranian victory over the U.S. and Israel.”

Ensuring Iran is defenseless and economically crippled has been a priority for Israel for years. Trump’s recent deal all but assured that won’t happen. In the last 48 hours alone, the president has defended Iran’s right to have ballistic missiles, suggested that they should have the right to use nuclear power just like its neighbors, and criticized Israel for its deadly strikes in Lebanon—all which are points within the deal. And while it’s still unclear whether this is a temporary rift or a complete heel turn, this MOU endangers Israel’s long-term goals of a disarmed Iran and an occupied Lebanon.

The article is correct.

Trump surrendered.

I think TACOed is the correct term.

Trump was already the worst president in American history before Iran.

Now he's just rubbing it in.

Did anyone read the MOU? I did. It's not great, but it is not as bad as the critics are saying. The MOU does deliver some items that satisfies the demands of the EU, China and Russia in respect to sanctions. And before anyone jumps in to tell me how important sanctions were, I agree, they were, and had they been enforced, would have worked.. Unfortunately, Iran was busting sanctions thanks to China, Russia, Pakistan India and other countries and some EU nationals.

Item 8 is better than the previous situation;

8 — The Islamic Republic of Iran reaffirms that it shall not procure or develop nuclear weapons. The United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran have agreed to resolve the disposition of stockpiled enriched material pursuant to a mechanism that will be mutually agreed upon in accordance with the schedule mentioned in paragraph seven, with the minimum methodology to be down blended on site under the supervision of the IAEA. The two parties also agreed to discuss the issue of enrichment and other mutually agreed matters related to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s nuclear needs, based on a satisfactory framework being agreed upon in the final deal. The final deal will confirm the provisions of this paragraph. The United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran acknowledge the critical importance of the nuclear issues above mentioned. They express their intention to immediately address these issues in the negotiations in order to achieve mutual agreement on them.

I am not a fan of the MOU because I think the west squandered an opportunity to be done with iran once and for all. It hesitated and then blinked. However, I don't understand why some critics of Trump are criticizing the MOU. They were very vocal on the need for Iran to be given a financial lifeline to avoid starvation and economic hardship. The MOU offers that. Of course Iran is going to say it won. What else do you think it would do? It's leadership, navy and airforce was wiped out. Yes, it can still launch a few missiles and drones. That is to be expected because the country was not bombed back to the stone ages.

I don't think the conflict is over just yet. We will know in 60 days. What the MOU does, is give the Republicans breathing room for the November elections. Oil and gas prices will start to correct and the war will be forgotten in a few months We may see a very different scenario in mid November if iran does not co-operate.

The article is correct. So are these goals of Israel unfortunately.

As I see it, the US and Israel were top-heavy aggressors, set in place. Iran was far more mobile and acted on many fronts. Frankly, I could give a fig about nuclear--nobody's safe until ALL nukes are destroyed. What is shameful is that renouncing Hezbollah was not part of the deal. To me, that shows neither the US or Israel care about a ragtag bunch of militants as much as they say they do.

Of course, both Bibi and Donnie did not include cutting off terrorist militants. Why is that?

I think Iran is right about one thing. If Israel doesn't stop bombing a foreign nation, the MOU is toast. Perhaps Israel would prefer its state of permanent war.
