I am trying to understand the severity of the threat. Was there a clear and present danger? Was it a code red situation? Should a SWAT team be deployed?

Does that really matter? Dogs off their leash are a danger and should be 'dealt with', as should the 'owner'.

I live in the rural north east where you will never see a dog on a leash. No one here regards dogs as a danger. They live in harmony with each other as has been the case for thousands of years. They don't even worry about the safety of their kids. Everyone, man and dog, just intermingle.

You asked elsewhere 'who put these creatures on the planet'. Actually, we did! Dogs are genetic the result of mankind selectively breading tame wolves to the mutual benefit of both species. This modern Paranoia regarding dogs is a western construct by people who have lost touch with a more harmonious way of living.

There is always a clear and present danger when dogs of the size in the OP are off their leash. Don't ask silly questions please.

You would soon complain if a rabid soi dog, or any other, bit YOU.

Were these dogs rabid? Were they threatening anyone? Did they make a mess? If not, then mind your business.

And how do YOU know that they were NOT rabid or a dangerous breed. Better to err on the side of caution.

We cannot see what breed the six dogs are, but they look pretty big. In Bangkok, all dogs must be kept on leash outside private property, and other places can make their own regulations regarding both leashes and muzzles. And of course, the owner SHOULD clean up any mess. A child can go blind if they play in sand with dog faeces and get it in their mouth. Or would you suggest we keep children off the beaches, or parks where dogs have shat?

There are many stories of 'well behaved' family dogs turning on their owners, not only in Thailand, but all over the World.

And as for your last sentence, you please do the same. Thanks.

Your hysteria is not a substitute for actual fact. You have no evidence to show that the animals were either dangerous and/or rabid. The person was not in Bangkok. What is done in the congested of Bangkok is not relevant to a spacious Jomtien beach, that was most likely lightly used when johnny foreigner was on walk about.

Yes a child can go blind from Ocular Toxocariasis. You can also die from being hit by a meteorite or a lightening strike. How many cases of blindness are recorded from playing in the sand at the beach? You will be disappointed to know, that beach locations are low risk because the salt water associated with the tides, and the very hot sun are not conducive to supporting the roundworm eggs. This was the beach and not a park. If your child is eating random dog turds off the beach, then the child has some serious problems. And why aren't parents supervising their children at the beach? I don't want to see polluted beaches either, but the problem doesn't come from some foreigners dogs having a walk. The ridiculous aspect of this is that you are unconcerned and oblivious to the raw sewage that flows into Pattaya Bay and affects Jomtien Beach. A person is far more likely to become ill from the sewage in the water than leftover dog turd.

If you are that concerned, go up to these people and give them a good lecture on leashing their dogs. Wave your finger while you are at it.

OK, I give up. You are quite happy to see someone letting their dogs roam free on the small Jomtien Beach, <deleted>ting there. I doubt whether the man in the photo would clean their mess up, hopefully he would. Meteorite or dog muck..what a silly comparison. The child does not have to EAT the turds, merely touch them and put their finger in their mouth, as kids often do.

Better to be safe than sorry, and ban un-leashed mutts, rabid or not, for which neither you or I have evidence, from public places, especially when one man has six of them roaming free.

Many moons ago I recall being on Koh Samet with a group of friends. We travelled to Thailand together. One friend ordered some food he ended up not liking. Instead of leaving it on his plate, he fed it to some Beach dogs under his table. For the remainder of our time on Samet any time he walked along the beach, he was accompanied by a large pack of dogs. It was very funny to see at the time.

I agree and have never seen a dog on a leash. Three rabies shots in 10 years though is a pain! It is what it is and I just get the shots and was told last time I only needed 1 shot because of all my previous shots. Dog don't like joggers and some have figured out that humans are easy to quietly taste.

Nobody likes joggers.

Yep, I agree but that isn't going to stop me. I think I maybe the only one out of the 3-4k people in the area. You get the random jogger but they never last long. I think people like me. After awhile they figure out that I'm harmless and their dogs seem to like to have fun with me. We do have cyclists but that seems worse than jogging. Dogs enjoy messing with them more than me and cars also like playing tag with them.

So there's not really a problem. Adjust to the local ecological situation.Good for you.

Dogs aren't inherently bad.

Any time you're out jogging and are coming up on dogs, stop and continue walking until you pass them. The running entices them to chase, thinking you're running into their territory as other dogs do. They go after small animals the same way.

Reminds me of a time jogging on an island beach; a dog, unknown to me, made a beeline towards me at speed, as if to do the biting thing. Before it could reach me, another dog intercepted it with such force that it literally went spinning and rolling across the beach. That interceptor was a dog that I had befriended earlier.

Thanks but I would guess anyone over 10 years old has figured that out. Just saying :)

"Jomtien" seems to be a euphemism for Pattaya...?

Or is the reason you say Jomtien not Pattaya is because this is a better neighborhood...?!?

I think you just posted a picture proving otherwise. 😄

Jomtien/Pattaya is for poor old people
Why would anyone want to swim there anyway

The picture is not clear. What breed of dog (if any) are they?

The famous “Thai Soi Dog” pure bred on the Soi's of Thailand. I don’t see any plastic bags in the owners hands so doubt he cleans up after his dog’s poop all over the beach. In Greece, it’s cats, in Thailand it’s dog’s. Ce la vie…….Peace

Oh really!

What about all the young generation sex tourists who go there stashed with cash for the beer bars, lady bars and cannabis shops (to a lesser extent)?

If they want to go swimming, from a sandy beach under palm trees, why not? it is their choice.

Ok which is it ? Actually in the day time I see a lot of 20s - early 30s in Jomtien. (More so than Pattaya) So I would ask : 1. Where do you see all old people? 2. Where do you see young sex tourists in Jomtien? . The only people I see in the water are Russians and lesser Scandas. Next question: Do Either of you live in the area?

No, I do not live in the area but I am familiar with the resorts having visited them during my 20 years living full time retirement in Thailand (mainly up north) . After almost 7 years, I now live in retirment in Cambodia. My comments were based on personal observations. No further comment from me. Have a good day.

Ok Pattaya for sure has young sex tourists - can you blame them: these jumbo butts Western women could make a freight train take a dirt road. But Jomtien no. Thats the Instagram and fitness demographics.
