Dismembered foreigners’ bodies found in Poipet

Residents of Poipet City were left reeling after the grisly discovery of human remains in a forest clearing on 2 July. Police confirmed that the victims were two men, believed to be foreigners, whose bodies had been dismembered and stuffed into black sacks before being dumped near Nong Thmar Meas village in Banteay Meanchey province.

The case came to light when locals noticed dogs dragging parts of the remains from the undergrowth, prompting an immediate alert to authorities. Officers arriving at the scene reported a strong stench and found two severed heads along with other body parts in an advanced state of decomposition. Tattoos on the victims may provide crucial clues to their identities.

Specialist police units from both the provincial and city forces cordoned off the area and carried out forensic examinations over two days, from 2 to 3 July. Investigators are now working to establish who the men were and how they came to meet such a brutal end.

The discovery has shocked the community, with residents describing the incident as one of the most disturbing in recent memory. While speculation is rife, officials have urged patience as the investigation continues. At present, no suspects have been named and no motive has been confirmed.

Authorities say they are pursuing all leads and will release further details once the victims are formally identified. For now, the case stands as a chilling reminder of the violence that can erupt in border towns such as Poipet, where crime and illicit activity often intersect.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward, stressing that international cooperation may be required if the victims are indeed foreign nationals. The investigation remains ongoing.
