The Uk has forgotten it invaded Middle East for fuel for its navy, which ruled waves. Got to habit of fighting in this area, but originally it had reason, not just reflex. As today, UK rules nothing, and has most expensive oil in Europe despite being only country in Europe that has own oil (except Norway and... Russia...), but still pays extra to ship more oil to Vietnam and China, which do not care about UK. To feel important, or not even feel important, but just forgot why it does this, and forgot how to make decision?

Ok. What's your point? The UK had the same intelligence in respect to the attacks on Hong Kong , Malaya and Singapore and yet was "surprised" by the co-ordinated attacks. Japan was reassuring the USA that it wanted peace right up until the day of infamy. There is little defence against a country that intentionally lies while planning an attack. That's why Iran had to be managed as it was. Iran has been acting in bad faith and with an evil intent since 1979.
