June 10Jun 10 US President Donald Trump said the United States would launch further strikes against Iran on Wednesday, a day after American forces targeted Iranian military sites and Tehran responded with attacks on US bases across the region.Get today's headlines by email Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said the US had struck Iran hard on Tuesday and would do so again. He also renewed calls for Tehran to agree to a deal, warning that Iran was paying the price for delaying negotiations.Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian responded in a post on X, saying the country would remain steadfast in the face of pressure and threats.Renewed Military ExchangeThe latest escalation followed US strikes launched on Tuesday after Trump said Iran had downed a US Army Apache helicopter. According to the US military, the attacks targeted Iranian defence systems, radar installations and ground control facilities near the Strait of Hormuz.Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it retaliated by launching attacks on American military facilities in the region. Iranian officials said 21 targets were struck, including bases in Bahrain and Jordan, while Kuwait reported intercepting incoming projectiles.A US official cited by Reuters said nearly all Iranian missiles and drones were intercepted and no casualties had been reported.Trump described the US action as a justified response to the helicopter incident. He later said an Iranian drone had struck the aircraft while it was flying at low altitude, though the helicopter did not explode and both crew members were rescued by an American sea drone. Iranian media reported that Tehran had not claimed responsibility for the incident.Diplomatic Tensions DeepenDespite continued negotiations, relations between Washington and Tehran remain strained.Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqai accused the United States of undermining diplomatic efforts through inconsistent messaging, shifting demands and repeated ceasefire violations. He said Iran needed to reassess the situation and stressed that diplomacy required a degree of stability.Trump maintained that the proposed agreement would permanently prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.Separately, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) approved a US-backed resolution calling on Iran to provide further information about its uranium stockpile and nuclear production facilities. Iran's mission to the United Nations in Vienna criticised the measure, arguing that support for diplomacy was being contradicted by continued military action against Iranian infrastructure.Shipping Incident in Gulf of OmanThe US military also announced that it had struck an oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman, alleging the vessel had violated a blockade by attempting to transport Iranian oil.India said three of its nationals were missing after the attack on the tanker Settebello, while 21 crew members were rescued. The United States has enforced a blockade of Iranian ports since the Strait of Hormuz was effectively closed by Iran following US and Israeli attacks on Tehran earlier this year. The Settebello was reported to be the eighth vessel targeted by US forces under the blockade.Conflict BackgroundThe current conflict began on 28 February when US and Israeli strikes killed Iran's supreme leader. Iran responded with attacks against Israel and Gulf states aligned with Washington, and fighting later spread across the region, including into Lebanon.Although a ceasefire agreed in April reduced large-scale hostilities, both sides have continued exchanging intermittent fire while pursuing difficult negotiations aimed at securing a longer-term settlement.Join the discussion? June 11Jun 11 When will that idiot learn that they aren’t scared of his threats. He’s going to end up learning the hard way. Unfortunately many Americans will as well. How he remains in power is beyond belief. The people should have the right to kick his a$$ out and send him on a sight seeing trip to Iran.

June 11Jun 11 I would not read too much into what the conman has to say. Changes its mind every hour. The boy that cried wolf will soon learn that he is in way way over his head here.

If by some "magic" he was removed, it then requires 2/3 majority of both House and Senate for removal. That requires much more magic.
June 11Jun 11 Well as a result Iran targeted a US base in Jordan destroying several F35 fighters. Why do the American people accept that Zionists, AIPAC, donors, control their Congress and their president?

June 11Jun 11 Lying to the end when he said on state propaganda media FOX that top Iranian officials called him to stop the attacks. Never happened said Iran. Fact is that he saw the Iran retaliation and got cold feet. Has to lie to be seen that he still in control of this unnecessary war. Iran is fighting for its national security and sovereignty while US is fighting for Israel’s interest. No way the war will end with some US skirmishes. The stalemate will continue and the war frozen. Iran may be suffering but unlikely to bend over for Trump. Their economy got a 30% bounce from the higher oil price. Meanwhile US inflation is heading upwards. More chance of political repercussion in US than Iran.

Would the US navy attack (say) an Indian naval ship?
June 11Jun 11 My confidence level that Trump knows what the flippin' heck he is doing is nonexistent. My confidence level in anyone that thinks Trump knows what the flippin' heck he is doing is also nonexistent.

June 11Jun 11 It is apparent the goon is a one trick pony. He never has a plan B. So, even when plan A is failing miserably, he has no alternative. My guess is that he will withdraw with his tail between his legs, and claim a false victory having accomplished nothing except destruction of the world economy and more turmoil, but that's why we call him Mr. Chaos, isn't it?He is a simpleton nimwit, being advised by people that he picked from the absolute bottom of the barrel, but that's just Don. It's a shame because tens of millions of people thought he was somebody else. And he sure is showing his true colors now.The amount of chaos Trump has caused for the entire planet with his unnecessary forever war is astounding. It was sich a bad choice and the timing could not have been worse, as the world economy is already challenged enough. This means nothing to him as his wealth continues to grow through massive corruption, while the people suffer from high Trumpflation, and job losses. What did they think was going to happen with the strait and why did they think they could handle the consequences of this recklessness? Trump must go. He is dangerous and grossly incompetent.
