Let me see, alcohol and drugs cause major problems, that foreigners get blamed for, now they want to extend business hours and increase entertainment zones...has this Business Association got its head screwed on correctly?

Here's an idea: why not make Walking Street open 24 hours, put steel like at the zoo on all the exits, and let people watch all the drunks stumbling and fighting

Can you imagine what the bar girls are going to look like at 6 am

Again? They have been doing this for the past 20 years that I have been in Thailand.

The smell of weed is a relatively insignificant problem that only causes consternation in what in America is known as Karen's, whiny complainers who enjoy sticking their noses into other people's business instead of tending to their own.

Focus on Pattaya's "already existing problems" such as alcoholism which results in many deaths.

Correct me if I am wrong but so far, unlike alcohol or tobacco not a single person has died from the smell of weed.

Alcohol & Tobacco: Problem

Smell of Weed: Not a problem

Glad I could clear up your delusional claim.

Truth! 👑

My point has obviously gone by you in a woosh..

I'm not talking about deaths, or accidents, at all. I'm talking about an obnoxious smell causing normal tourists to stay away. It's one of the reasons why expats now avoid this area, the smell is everywhere..

And, it attracts a different kind of tourists going there, younger, more reckless, partyseeking, sometimes troublemakers. Not a good description for a world class tourist destination, is it.

Got it now?

Adorable perspective! 😍

Uhhh

I don't think that's why Normal Tourists are "staying away" from Pattaya, 555

It is definitely one reason, yes.

But I know you weedlovers love this smell, and can't ever grasp that, so pointing this obvious thing out, is useless.

World-a$$ travelers looking for a World-a$$ Tourist Destination. I think they just spelled it wrong

Appealing to world-class tourists and appealing to AN-class tourists are evidently two very different benchmarks. I suppose expectations have to be adjusted accordingly.

Pattaya is akin to , say, Atlantic City or Blackpool. I' sure there are others.

People go to these places for titillation they either can't or won't get at home.

For this purpose I believe Pattaya is already a World Class destination.

The only people who deny this is, on this forum, are the guys who live there and are worried what their choice of residence does to any form of reputation they thought they had.

Better than Monte Carlo! As good as it gets. A true family vacation spot. We even have go cart tracks and we are nearly crime free. We have some of the world's best beaches. We rival Polynesia!

Whatever your taking can I get some? It must be really good.

I went to Blackpool once. It is very very different to Pattaya. I’m not even going to start listing the ways.

I think he was being sarcastic.

why not back to 24h without restrictions? Up to the bar owners when they want to open and close?

I kind of liked the time when in the morning you could meet the guys from last night at the same bar. Some had their first beer of the day and some the last of the previous night...

Same with the girls and their customers .

Boost Pattaya's status - how do you get out of the gutter?

That's the image it has for sure and it is that image that has served it well for decades, and still people continue to visit, as it supplies what they are looking for.

Those commenting negatively or throwing their thumbs down emojis around obviously don't live there and do not intend visiting. So really , what is their problem ? What is the real purpose of their scathing criticism of Pattaya and the people who go there?

Virtue signalling if you ask me

As Pattaya has no "world-class" status to speak of then boosting it from zero shoudn't be difficult

you didn't specify some,. or all Hence the question mark, I was merely seeking clarification settle down

I don't know any expats who avoid anywhere due to "the smell"

Whilst some of the activities one could indulge in there might be considered by some to be gutter level pursuits , Pattayas reputation for supplying the opportunities to do so is widely known In that respect it is world renowned

For once, I agree with you. I did not notice expats avoiding areas where weed smoke may be smelt. I also did notice a significant number of expats who indulge in smoking weed, in particular among the 'mature' expat population which is dominant in Pattaya.

perhaps we might also agree that indeed the overwhelming majority of people just aren't that bothered by the smell of weed , just a very vocal minority who's dislike is obviously tainted by a bit of reefer madness,

There is a lot worse to be smelt in Thailand, and some of it is even meant to be eaten
