AI: When Bombing Railroads Becomes a War Crime

An attack on a railway network crosses the line into a war crime under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) if it breaches three core legal principles: [1, 2]

  • Violation of Proportionality: It is a war crime if the anticipated civilian harm (e.g., slaughtering passengers on a civilian train) is clearly excessive compared to the direct military benefit of disabling the tracks. [1, 2]

  • Indiscriminate Attacks: Using unguided weapons on a railway station packed with evacuating civilians—without attempting to isolate military assets—constitutes an indiscriminate strike. [1, 2]

  • Intentional Targeting of Civilians: Deliberately bombing a civilian train or station with the primary purpose of spreading terror or killing non-combatants is strictly illegal. [1, 2]

  • Deprivation of Essentials: If destroying a specific railway line intentionally cuts off the civilian population from objects indispensable to their survival—such as starving them by halting all incoming food and medical aid—it violates ICC Article 8(2). [1]

As I said, war crime. The line was bombed solely so that civilians could not get to Khameinei's funeral.

Let's put this theory to a test. Based on what you posted here. You want the leaders of Ukraine charged with war crimes.

I could I would argue that prior to the US invasion of Iran Khomeini had infinitely less support than he did after the invasion and the assassination.

The US is very good at making a rather nasty and extreme government look sympathetic. That takes a certain kind of talent, or should I say lack of talent.

Perhaps it is not the Iranian people who have been indoctrinated.

Islam is an indoctrination. Why has it not yet been criminalized is the question.

As is another religion I can think of. Islam is not alone in that regard.

Humanity/Earth is only 6000 years old? Really.

I’m not terribly sorry for posting a presumed offensive comment about your religion.

Absolutely. IF those lines are used solely for civilian transport, not military.

43m is a half decent turnout.

If shari'a law were applied, it would certainly help with the world'a population problem!

Archie, go upstairs, bang Edith and then have a nap.

As is Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Mormonism, Scientology, etc.

All fantasy-backed belief systems.

Other than some great architecture, and a couple of good songs, not a one of them has done a lick of good for the species.

As for the funeral, I go with what @spidermike007 wrote, that a miscreant leadership was made both more popular and more sympathetic owing to the actions of two other miscreant leaders. In a race to the bottom, the Islamic Republic of Japan Iran floats better than the other two. That requires a certain lack of skill among the two sinkers.

Never said they were indoctrinated. What I said was the have been subjected to indoctrination.

So, did everyone bring an Iranian hot dish or casserole 🥘

How was the spread or whatever Muslims call a buffet

Buffet good

It won't be as big as Trump's funeral. That will have twice as many attend, may be three times as many.

It will be the biggest and best funeral anyone has ever had.

You win wars be destroying a country's economy.

And the vast majority will be attending to be sure that the maniac is really dead.

He will probably get even more than the late Iranian president as the Iranians were in grief whilst the world will be rejoicing when Trump finally descends to hell!

P.S. The sooner the better!

Always very amusing to see all the religious fundamentalist show within the populations islamic nations. But when they come to the West, both their men and women are 5 times more decadent then the locals.

I recall many moons ago when I was working as cabin crew, each time we did the turnaround stop in Teheran, we would prepare small brown bags filled with the mini airline bottles of booze. It was then fairly distributed to the Revolutionnary Guards who had no shame in barging inside the aircraft with their rifles despits all international regulations on the matter. Each got their little brown bag and with a wicked smile they disembarked and the next batch would arrive. That's how things work in these countries.

You never present the actual facts in context. You make the false claim that the target was civilian and then add in the unsubstantiated conclusion that this was to disrupt the funeral of the dead despot.

The Aq Taqeh Khan (railway bridge in Golestan province and another route between Zanjan and Mianeh was targeted. This is a principal supply line from China and Russia into Iran. A section of the Tehran–Mashhad Line in the north east that serves a military industrial complex was struck. 3 additional key bridges and junctions that connect to military industrial sites outside of Tehram were hit. These were all military use targets. No civilians were targeted, nor were passenger trains attacked. The funeral show has been going on for a week and was near completion when the military targets were hit.

The problem that arises when people ignorant of the law and who have no experience in the administration of the law try to present legal arguments is that they make no sense to those who do have some understanding of the applicable laws. Now, you might convince some of your fellow self appointed moral authorities who are looking to validate their existing political bias, but you do not convince anyone with common sense and an ability to think things through. You are oblivious to the concept of honesty.

Speaking of self appointed authorities, has anyone here ever been to Iran and met Iranians?

In Iran they call it "Sofreh" and if you´ve never had Iranian food, you really missed something.

I have met Iranians who have fled from Iran.
