Thai anti-trafficking police have arrested the 28-year-old manager of a well-known Muay Thai gym in Rayong over allegations that underage male fighters were supplied for paid sexual services. Officers say the youngest alleged victim identified during the operation was 13.

Police are also seeking a Norwegian man said to have financially supported the gym, following allegations that six children were sexually abused by the foreign national.

The arrest was announced on 15 July by the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division (ATPD), acting under orders from Pol Lt Gen Natsak Chaowanasa, commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau, and Pol Maj Gen Witthaya Sriprasertphap, commander of the ATPD.

The suspect, identified as Naruebeth, whose surname was withheld, was arrested under Criminal Court warrant No. 3772/2569, dated 7 July 2569. He faces a human-trafficking charge involving the improper exploitation of children aged over 15 but under 18 for prostitution, as well as allegations connected to managing a prostitution business.

Undercover inquiry at Rayong gym

Police said investigators had received information that people running a Muay Thai training camp in Rayong were forcing child fighters to provide sexual services to men.

An undercover officer reportedly joined the gym as a student to investigate. Police said the camp had around 30 Thai and foreign male and female fighters, ranging in age from under 18 to 35.

According to police, the manager allegedly said he could arrange child fighters for customers, with prices starting from 2,000 baht.

He allegedly claimed the children involved were troublesome or came from families with problems and wanted money for leisure, and sent photographs through Line before customers made a choice.

Officers said he provided names and photographs of more than 15 fighters allegedly available for sexual services.

At one location, police carried out a controlled operation and rescued three alleged victims aged under 18. At the gym, officers screened 12 children for possible trafficking victim status after finding 15 boys and young people aged 11 to 19 gathered there without parents present.

Norwegian financial backer sought

The 12 children gave broadly similar accounts, police said. They alleged that when a Norwegian man who supported the gym's operating costs visited, a secretary known as "B" would call boys to meet him privately in a reception room.

They alleged sexual abuse, including acts described as swinging, was carried out and photographs and video clips were recorded. The children said payments ranged from 500 to 5,000 baht, with further support allegedly including mobile phones, school uniforms and household expenses for poorer families.

Some children also alleged that the gym owner knew what was happening but did not intervene. Police said some families were aware but did not report the matter because of the financial support received.

A multi-agency team concluded that six children were victims of sexual abuse by the foreign man, police said. Investigators are now expanding the inquiry and trying to locate him.

For foreign parents and guardians considering Muay Thai camps for children in Thailand, the case is a reminder to check safeguarding arrangements, supervision and accommodation before enrolling a young person. The allegations remain under investigation.

It is time for the police to start prosecuting parents for not watching there children.

I would say woodchipper time but this guy needs the rusty grasscutters they use over here instead. But only after the kids tee off with their best kicks for a few hours first.

Not hapening in the west so I doubt that has any chance here.

Also if the kids are ot frm the area then the parents have little control. Almost like the case int eh U.S. where girls were sent to skating academies and the doctor was a nut job.

I do agree though that parents should be checking but the issue is that most haveno real idea outside their village of what the world is like or the education.

All true, my Thai son grew up being monitored by the minute although he didn't realize that. His Thai mother (perfect English) was a Dr. of Medicine, she had her basic MBBS qualifications plus 2 medical board certifications all achieved in Australia. She lived with one family in Oz for 12 years. The family had 4 kids plus my wife joined that family at 18 years old. She has sadly passed on but she shared that her Oz 'parents' were amazing in terms of care and guarding all their kids and her.

She returned to Thailand and we met and married and we had one son who was watched like a hawk by his mother and me but he never realized it until he got older.

My Thai son now has a Thai wife, my son and his wife are totally devoted to their 4 kids and the kids know that they are watched, educated and fed etc., very well.

I hope they go after all the clients as well.

If the charges are true, the only real justice would be the death penalty, carried out within 30 days. Possibly even without a trial and no possibility of appeal, if there is sufficient evidence.

These types of animals are one reason so many young girls and boys are trafficked here. With all the crackdowns on trafficking here, it's surely a lot more going on than most realize.

Thailand as a sex capital hurts innocents this way also, as the "parents" think it's normal, seeing so many do it anyway, might as well profit by coercing their daughters to make enough extra cash so they can profit from it. The more this selling behavior is accepted, the more victims, and the more who are under aged also.

Extreme punishment for everyone involved, including life sentences for the top tier, clients who benefit and parents who pimp their children out when they are too young to make good decisions, and out of fear.

It’s sick what these boys had to endure at this camp. It happens at all kinds of camps, even at the temples. Sad this is happening to both the young boys and girls. They need a lot more oversight and longer sentences for anyone involved. Parents included if they know about it. Hold back no punches.

I knew a guy in the condo complex where I lived who had a penchant for 14 year old boys. He'd like them younger but I believe the laws are such that if the parents are ok with the arrangement and their son is 14, the authorities gave a pass. He could never understand why, after a month or so, they would rip him off blind and disappear into the setting sun.

Parents know what's going on and choose to ignore it because of the financial incentives; they say this behaviour is even bigger in the Philippines.

The fact is, under 15, the penalties are severe.

A comment that I suspect is sadly true- an old gf of mine from the Philippines told me that her parents knew what was going on when she was asked to clean a neighbours house - he paid her for sex and she was only 11

I asked why she did it - and it was a mixture of fear- and a need for money in the family!

I asked about her parents attitude - and she told me their greater concern was not having food on the table so she had to do what she did

This is so repulsive on so many levels. The Norwegian man most probably thought he could not be touched as he was not directly involved. He thought he would be seen as an angel investor helping young troubled boys find their way. Very little doubt in my mind that the manager has spilt the beans and the police have been watching him over a period of time.

What I still don't understand is that a farang can get an educational visa for attending muay thai lessons. Could anyone explain this nonsense

Well it can be more complicated than it might look.

I'm aware of a farang man who has a Thai boyfriend, they have been together in a solid full gay relationship for many years.

The Thai man has shared that his Essan parents believed what he shared - that he worked as a waiter in a big expensive restarant in Pattaya with mostly foreign customers most of whom gave very large tips, hundreds of Baht every meal, several times every night.

Same Thai man also shared that some Thai boys get caught out that they work in a massage parlor or bar where the foreign customer can pay to take one of the young male staff home with them for an hour or overnight and the Thai boy is expected to put on rubber gloves and masturbate the foreigner to jaculation but nothing more.

Or some boys tell their parents that foreigners are frightened to sleep alone so they pay for a Thai boy to sleep in their bed, or floor or in another bed or sofa in the same room, for security purposes.

And no doubt there more versions. This is life.

A twist, I joined the boy scouts in my home country and we often went on scout camps.

Scoutmasters touching the scouts, having various forms of gay sex with scots was rampant in every scout troop.

We had a scoutmaster for several years who was a local junior policeman. At scout camps he was actively sexually with scouts all the time. And I have no doubt this happened in scout troops all over the world.

Twenty + years ago this exploded into a very big official investigation across the USA producing data that sex with scout leaders and sex between the boys was rampant and happened very often.
