The SCB Android application wants me to fill out a KYA questionaire to screen for "money laundering". However it makes little sense. They ask if you are employed. Many of us here are retired and have pension income. But it never asks that. The only answers they have is to pick a job titles from a list (then they want to know your employer and their address and how much you make) or "Unemployed."

They have no option for declaring that you are "Retired" and drawing pension income.

I can imagine that if you declare that you are "Unemployed" and have an income of 100,000 THB per month, that discrepancy would raise a red flag.

I don't see an adequate way of answering that question. Has anyone else run into this with SCB or any other Thai bank?

You have to wonder who the banks employ to design these questionnaires. Kbank is just as bad and if you do not fit into one of the little boxes they thought of. No critical thinking or awareness of their different customers numbers.

Unemployed get income from benefits and depending on your age you may or may not be getting any pension!

Try answering "unemployed" and see what comes up. You can always quit out of the app!

Then go to their "help" page for clarification!

In 2026, there is not much that is bank related in Thailand that makes much sense.

Truemoney wallet has the same anomaly. I eventually 'cracked' it by answering 'unemployed'. Which, technically, is correct.

No, I have not seen a questionnaire from my bank (Krungsri)...yet. But if I do get one, I'll be in the same situation as you are.

Got this on my phone from SCB. I just ignored it after I did not see any "Retired" option.

Yes. Popped up for me a couple of days ago when I opened it.

According to the message with it they ask for the info to be updated every year....

Mine already said Unemployed from the last time I did it (had a vague memory of this issue from before but thought it was more than a year ago). So left it and updated the income field as it was very low to something more realistic.

I always choose "supported by my children"

Which appears on several forms I have filled (and is not taxable).

I had to fill it in a few days ago. I'd been advised by someone previously when I had the same complaint as you that if you select UNEMPLOYED and then enter RETIRED as the company name that satisfies the system and it's as factually correct as it allows you to be.

What is a KYA?
