A power outage at University station disrupted Kelana Jaya LRT services on Thursday morning, leaving one train unable to operate and forcing Rapid KL to introduce temporary service changes.

Trains turn back before affected section

Rapid KL said trains travelling from Putra Heights and Gombak were turning back at Asia Jaya while alternative service arrangements were activated. The disruption affected a key section of one of the Klang Valley's busiest urban rail routes.

The operator also temporarily closed Platform 2 at Taman Bahagia and Taman Paramount stations for maintenance. Platform 1 at Taman Jaya station was closed as part of the same disruption-management measures.

Temporary platform changes announced

Passengers at Taman Bahagia and Taman Paramount were told to use Platform 1 to board trains. Those travelling through Taman Jaya were directed to Platform 2.

Commuters were advised to pay attention to station announcements and allow additional time for their journeys. The changes could affect connections with buses, other rail services and appointments elsewhere in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

Rapid KL did not give a firm time for normal operations to resume in its initial announcement. Passengers should therefore check the operator's latest updates before travelling and be prepared to use alternative transport if delays continue.

What it means for foreigners in Malaysia

Foreign residents and visitors using the Kelana Jaya Line should not assume their usual platform or through service is operating normally. Travellers heading to work, medical appointments, transport hubs or tourist areas should leave extra time and confirm the correct platform after entering each affected station. Ride-hailing services and local buses may provide alternatives, although demand and journey times can rise during rail disruptions. Keep travel cards topped up, follow staff instructions and avoid boarding a train simply because it is on the normally expected platform. Anyone with a time-sensitive airport or intercity connection should consider an earlier departure and monitor Rapid KL's official service notices until full operations are confirmed.
