PLUS expects 2.2m vehicles over Malaysia holiday breaks

PLUS Malaysia expects up to 2.2 million vehicles on its highways during the National Day and school-holiday peak periods, and is urging drivers to plan journeys around the busiest times.

Peak travel dates

The operator expects heavier traffic from August 28 to 31 and again from September 4 to 7. It has issued its MyPLUS Travel Time Advisory schedule through the PLUS App to spread traffic and reduce concentrations at peak locations.

The app also provides live traffic information, emergency assistance, incident updates, toll estimates, rest-and-service area locations and electric-vehicle charging information.

Network preparations

PLUS is increasing staffing at toll plazas and rest areas, strengthening patrols and using its traffic monitoring centre. Smart Lanes will operate at 33 selected locations where congestion is expected.

The company is coordinating with police, road transport authorities and the highway authority to deal with incidents quickly. Drivers have been reminded to follow Smart Lane signs, avoid unauthorised use of emergency lanes and check their vehicle and payment balance before travel.

What it means for foreigners in Malaysia

Anyone driving between cities during the two holiday windows should expect delays and build extra time into airport transfers or inter-state journeys. Use the official PLUS App before departure, carry sufficient Touch ‘n Go or e-wallet balance and take breaks at rest areas to avoid fatigue.
