Da Nang airport set for US$380m expansion

Central Vietnam's largest airport to get $380mn expansion

Da Nang International Airport is set for a US$380 million terminal expansion aimed at lifting annual passenger capacity to 14 million as central Vietnam’s tourism and aviation demand grows.

The Airports Corporation of Vietnam and the Da Nang People’s Committee have announced the T1 passenger-terminal renovation and expansion, alongside the first phase of an aircraft-apron project.

Terminal upgrade planned

The T1 project is valued at more than VND9.9 trillion. It will include improvements to transport access, a multi-storey car park, landscaping and technical infrastructure.

Construction is expected to start in August next year, with the enlarged terminal scheduled to enter operation in January 2029.

Extra aircraft parking

The separate first-stage apron expansion will add six aircraft parking positions at a cost of more than VND170 billion. It is expected to begin in December and enter service in July 2027.

Airport authorities say the added stands are intended to improve handling at peak periods and create room for longer-term growth at the main international gateway for central Vietnam.

Tourism and trade role

Da Nang officials described the projects as important for passenger services, tourism, trade and the city’s wider development plans. The city is seeking to strengthen its role as a regional economic hub and a gateway for international connections.

ACV said the combined terminal and apron works would improve capacity, architecture and digital passenger services while supporting future demand for air travel.

What it means for foreigners in Vietnam

The work is a longer-term investment rather than an immediate change to flights. Visitors and residents using Da Nang should eventually benefit from more capacity and improved facilities, while construction schedules may bring operational adjustments closer to the project dates.

Da Nang is a major base for travel around central Vietnam, including Hoi An, Hue and the coast, making airport capacity a key part of the region’s visitor economy.
