I don't think they are ignoring this aspect deliberately or intentionally , but rather they are publishing what the original Chinese articles highlighted on foreign men renting Thai women.

This has nothing to do about married Thai men keeping mistresses or girlfriends on the side which btw is a very common cultural norm throughout the world since civilizations began.

There are some who get this kind of money. I know of a few cases. The average is however far below that.

I agree that while the average in Thailand is well below these quoted figures, there are exceptions where it's much higher. It's surprising to me how many cashed up farangs are willing to pay what I consider silly money to get a beautiful, fun, clever Thai lady by their side, even when it doesn't involve sex (because they are no longer capable). Each to their own.

Still a lot cheaper than bringing your own. At least one from the States. I once calculated that it cost me an extra $4000 to bring my wife to Cozumel for 2 weeks. That was airfare, meals, shopping and staying in a much nice hotel than I'd choose for myself (diving trip). And that was the '80s. Probably more like $10K today. I should note that she was rather high maintenance, and I knew it going in. Lesson lear'ed.

50,000 baht sounds cheap. But, alas. I don't do the P4P thing. I've got some female Thai friends that I hang out with on my monthly visits, but no benefits.

My Thai GF is 23 years younger than me. We have been together for 12 years. I provide support, she provides care.

Maybe that's renting. Vietnam would have to explain to me why I should give a FF about their opinion.

I find it shocking that a Vietnamese newspaper write such things about our women. They don't do such things. Also police goes check regularly in walking street and Soi 6. They never find any signs of prostitution.

The data seems rather dated, if not outright biased, unless the newspaper specifically set the rental time period as more than an hour or two.

If you happen to visit an agogo today, the majority of the customers are not Western; they're Korean, Japanese, Singaporean and Chinese. Maybe those guys rent only short term, but they are the majority. Though this may be incorrect, East Asians seem to view bargirls as solely for temporary amusement, not girlfriend material, but rent they still do. Given the skewed number of males relative to marrying age females in places like China and South Korea, it's no wonder these guys are looking for a carnal partner.

In Bangkok, I also see lots of young Asians who seem to have rented ladyboys. I don't know if that's preference or ignorance, and if the fellow is later surprised in the bedroom.

Times change. The Vietnam War long since ended, and the Western men who might have paired up with a rental wife are passing away. It's now largely an Asian game, with a dash of Western start-up millionaires. The youngest Vietnam vet would be at least 73, as the last birth year drafted was 1953. Going, going, gone.

There's also a lot more money floating around nowadays, so the monthly charge can easily top 100,000 baht. The top women who work the agogo circuit pull in 300K or more a month. To avoid the wear and tear of a new comer every night, maybe they would accept less, but I don't think that's a certainty.

Some of my staff are young Thai females. They have uni or hometown friends who work the agogos, or who serve as paramours or mia nois to Thai businesspeople, politicians and military folks. The perks are quite substantial, and include condos, cars, designer clothes, jewelry, and a monthly stipend. The most attractive women who opt for paid companionship are going to be totally uninterested in an old farang living on a $50 to $100K pension. A few years ago it was the crypto bros who drove the high end of the market; now it's the AI crowd, 20-something farangs with 8+ figure net worth, who might be the long term renters.

C'mon now. We all have seen those westerners of all ages with their fine young ladies all around Thailand. But what is unfair here is that even when it's a regular relationship people in society, other foreigners in the streets, restaurants, or the locals, will always think the lady is a rent-per-week or a rent-per-month when she is walking with a falang man.

Well, not sure where they are getting their data from, but it is wildly inaccurate. So many women are so desperate now that they would take like 20% of those figures they are flinging around.

Many guys have woken up to the scam and are just refusing to do the old simping and splashing cash for nothing now as they have got wise to it. In many cases, you are better off doing the same as the locals and just going to a soapy massage place for a couple of grand and be done with it a few hours later with not strings attached. Also, many are following the 3-day-rule too.

I'm not so sure about that. While my Missus is younger and significantly more attractive than me, I think Thai people can immediately spot that she's a wife rather than a short timer. The way she dresses, and more importantly, the way she orders me around, are clear signs. 😂
