Flash Flood Alert Issued Across 24 Thai Provinces

Thailand’s National Water Resources Office issued a flash flood warning covering 24 provinces through September 8 as heavy seasonal rain continues across several regions. The alert follows a monsoon trough crossing the North and upper Northeast alongside a moderate southwest monsoon affecting Thailand, the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. Eleven northern provinces are included in the warning, along with 11 provinces in the Northeast and the eastern provinces of Chanthaburi and Trat. Authorities are concerned that accumulated heavy to very heavy rainfall could produce flash floods, forest runoff, landslides, mudslides and prolonged waterlogging in low-lying communities. Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert as conditions can deteriorate quickly when intense rainfall combines with already saturated ground.
