Poland Warns Russia Could Intensify Border Provocations

Featured Replies

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said two incidents involving Ukraine’s border areas this week indicate Russia may step up provocative actions at crossing points with Europe.

Speaking in Bratislava, Slovakia, during a meeting of central European leaders and Ireland, Tusk said the first incident occurred on Tuesday night at the Starokozache crossing between Ukraine and Moldova, where he said Russian drones killed two people. He added that a separate threat to a Polish-Ukrainian crossing point on Wednesday night was averted through cooperation between Warsaw and Kyiv, though he gave no further specifics.

He also said he had not presented evidence linking Russia to the Wednesday incident, and did not provide additional details about either case.

CIA Briefing Raises Fears for Coming Months

Tusk said he received a briefing on Thursday from CIA director Jim Ratcliffe, who had recently visited Moscow, about risks posed by Russia across the region in the months ahead.

According to Tusk, the pattern already includes provocative attacks at border points in Moldova. He said he expects similar actions involving crossings with Ukraine in other countries, including Poland, and that Poland and other European states should prepare for different scenarios on the eastern edge of the European Union.

Ukraine shares borders with Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Moldova, as well as Russia and Belarus.

Moldova’s Border Incidents Follow Drone And Strike Reports

Tusk’s warning comes as Moldova has faced repeated incidents near its southern border crossings with Ukraine in recent weeks.

On 20 August, an explosion in a parking lot on Ukrainian territory, about 150 metres from Moldova’s southern Giurgiulesti crossing, sparked a vegetation fire that spread to Moldovan land. The same day, Moldova’s border police reported finding a crater on Moldovan territory around one kilometre from the border, where they said debris from a drone type used by Russia in Ukraine was recovered.

The following day, Moldova temporarily closed its Mirnoe border after strikes hit areas in Ukraine near the crossing. On 25 August, Moldova suspended activities at its Vulcanesti border crossing after what it described as an Iranian-made Shahed drone struck the Ukrainian side. Moldova’s border police later urged citizens to remain calm and shelter if they heard drone noises or explosions.

After the Tuesday night incident at Starokozache, Moldova’s pro-Western president, Maia Sandu, condemned Russia, saying Moscow’s war was reaching Moldova’s border and that drones and missiles were bringing danger closer to the country.

Romania Reports Rising Drone Incursions, Zelenskyy Cites Damage

Tusk also referred to wider effects across the region. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently said a border crossing with NATO-member Romania, in eastern Ukraine along the Danube River, had been deliberately damaged, along with export infrastructure. The report drew on Ukraine’s account that Moscow has repeatedly targeted river ports throughout the war.

Romania has said it has seen nearly a threefold increase in drone incursions so far this year compared with the entirety of 2025, and that it has found more than double the number of drones and drone debris on its territory.

US Intelligence Talks And Poland’s Base Plans

Tusk said his warnings build on months of warnings that Russia could carry out either a limited military action or a hybrid provocation against Poland or the Baltic states—Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania—in the near future.

He said the latest CIA briefing matched what he had been raising publicly. In late August, Ratcliffe visited Moscow and held talks with Russian intelligence officials, while Polish politicians said possible NATO-related risks could have been among the topics.

On Tuesday, Tomasz Siemoniak, the Polish minister overseeing intelligence services, met Ratcliffe at CIA headquarters in Virginia to discuss Poland’s security and cooperation with the United States.

Meanwhile, an American delegation, including William Cappelletti Jr. of the US Department of Defense and Thomas DiNanno of the Department of State was due to visit Poland on Thursday and Friday to examine potential locations for a permanent US military base there.

Poland has sought for years to host such a base as a guarantee of security amid rising concerns about Russia. Tusk said Poland’s high defence spending and large US arms purchases have persuaded the Trump administration to consider a permanent presence in Poland even as it reorganises and reduces its broader military footprint in Europe.

META: Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk says recent border incidents and a CIA briefing point to a risk of Russia increasing provocations at European crossing points linked to Ukraine.

I'm hoping for some kind of Nurnberg trials 2.0 for all those crooks, liars, criminals and traitors in the "polish" government like tusk, sikorski, morawiecki, kaczynski and others. Then morons from UK, Sweden, Germany, Finland, France etc should be prosecuted as well.

Nürnberg trials 1945 - 1946

Charges: conspiracy, crimes against peace, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.

2026: These charges that were made in Nürnberg apply only to russia. It should also be possible to include North Korea and Iran.

I'm looking forward to it when the time comes.

Good. Whoever "we" is, It means my way of thinking is opposite to yours and other warmongers here. I'm so happy to be faaaar away from primitive way of thinkig straight from the stone age. Feel like I would like to play chess with someone who can't even master tic tac toe.

It always makes me curious why all of "you" here are still sitting in comfy chairs, flexing muscles, talking about new technologies for killing more people, proudly posting about how many people died every day, how to make those numbers bigger, what was destroyed and how to destroy more. You doing this every day (for some of you it's an oportunity to make money), instead grab bing the gun and go to you "enemy" lines. So convinient right ? People like you are partially responsible for what is happening. you're to primitive to learn from history so you are destined to repeat it.

How did you came up with this idea ? I'm not supporting anyone here. It is you who is happy and excited about the news how many people died, who got shot, how more infrastructure turns into ashes, what's new in killing technology etc. I just got enough knowledge and experience about the ukraine (it's history and how things are run there in past 4 decades) and ukrainian people who worked for me for almost decade. I could write a book abnout this LOL. You - westerners poisoned with rusophobic propaganda injected into your brain through decades doesn't have this knowledge and even don't wanna know it. So since your attitude is like "if you not with us then you are our enemy" I feel like talking with blind about colors. You just shallow minded and I don't even blame you for that. You've been raised that way. For me it's just weird how mentally and intellectually lazy you are as grown ups to not search for truth. Just keep repeating whats your inner software programmed by media displays in your brain. Being just a consumer of mass media information pulp makes you a perfect product of modern world, not an individually thinking human. And now go check and like the posts about what burned in Russia today and how many people died. Don't forget to like it.

You are trying to discredit and badmouth Ukraine here in this forum - and, by extension, everyone who supports Ukraine, whether through state financial aid or moral backing.

Your rhetorical method of "poisoning the well" involves discrediting sources of information - the media. We know also that a famous person calles them "the enemy of the people".

Furthermore, you dispute that the majority here thinks for themselves.

In doing so, you consider yourself superior and the only one who possesses the "truth."

The dying of people - Ukraine doesen't want it, putins russia could stop the killing since 2022.

Financial and MORAL (LOL!) backing for corrupted state .. Hm, ok. That says a lot about your level of knowledge.

I don't have to discredit media, they doing it themselves by pushing lies and BS, and for being on the politicians leash. I can remember tv's back in the days when it used to have some educational and informative values. Now most of EU/western media is nothing more than propaganda tube and massive psy op.

Majority doesn't, it is a scientifically proven fact, not just my opinion.

Not superior, just got some kind of advantage by having knowledge and experience, which allows me to see things clear. Furthermore, Iwas to both countries ukraine and russia many times before. You was there only by tv broadcast, distorted to suit political narration. How can I feel when some people here are saying 2x2 = 13 ?

Sure, average ukrainian people doesn't want. But average people can shape their reality only by choosing politicians. And the vast majority of them are crooked from definition, their actions speaks for themselves. Democracy is just a word to convince people that they have an influence on what is happening in the country. As classic said "Cross your X is your only voice".

Ukrainians should stop killing and tormenting minorities living in their north/east lands many years ago. Should stop nazi militia and corrupted politicians as authorities. They shouldn't burn people alive during the Euromajdan. They should admit their bloody, genocidal history and dig their genocidal "heroes" deep on historical dump forever, like Germany did with Hitler, Mengele and others. Ukraine had a potential long time ago but ruined it by making a wrong historical choices. What is happening now I consider as some kind of "karma" for bad deeds from the past.
