A 48-year-old American man wanted by a Texas court over an alleged domestic violence offence involving strangulation has been arrested by immigration officers in Phuket.

The man, identified by Phuket Immigration only as Brad, was detained outside a residence in Talat Nuea, Phuket Town, where officers believed he had been staying.

Arrest followed US Embassy information

Phuket Immigration said officers acted after receiving information from the US Embassy and tracing the American to Phuket Town.

A Texas court issued a warrant for Brad on May 26, 2022, in connection with the alleged strangulation offence, according to Phuket Immigration. No further details of the Texas case were released.

US officials have revoked his passport, immigration officers said. When questioned, Brad did not have his original passport and was able to provide only a copy, according to the immigration.

Permission to stay revoked

Immigration Division 6 subsequently revoked his permission to remain in Thailand under the Immigration Act. He was then taken to the Phuket Immigration investigation unit, where officers informed him of his legal rights.

Phuket Immigration said further legal proceedings would follow, but gave no details about the next steps or a timetable for action, for his extradition.

omg, just now domestic abuse and all other minor crimes make them arrest you abroad?

isn't there something else/more going on with this guy...

Other countries have a high success rate in catching crimals that abscond abroad. Pity Thailand has a dismal failure in this regard. Rouge politicians and the red bull fugitive living the high life in plain site overseas.

Sounds like felony assault to me. If Texas is going after a domestic assault case, it is bad with history.

Seem to me many have chosen Thailand. Is that why TAT are so optimistic on their arrival numbers every year?

Domestic abuse is not a minor crime

This should signal the end of Thailand as a fugitive heaven. These folks are better off heading to Dubai...

So he's 48. Can't be on a retirement extension. Somebody should keep track of the troublemakers and exactly what visa they are using. I'm betting retirement extensions are way down at the bottom.
