A 45-year-old British man was taken to hospital after reportedly being attacked during an attempted phone robbery near Jomtien Soi 15 in Pattaya early on 15 September 2026.

The victim, named as Mr Anand, suffered bruising and a cut believed to have been caused by a sharp weapon, running from his left temple towards his ear. His mobile phone was not stolen.

Rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya Rescue Unit were called at 1.35am to the entrance of Jomtien Beach Soi 15, Chon Buri. Pattaya City Police also attended the scene.

Attackers allegedly used a knife

According to a 20-year-old convenience-store employee, named as Duchdao, Mr Anand entered the shop seeking help shortly after the attack.

She said he told her that two Thai men, who appeared to be drunk, had pulled alongside him on a motorcycle. One allegedly threatened him with a sharp weapon while they attempted to take his possessions.

The pair then assaulted him and tried to pull away his phone, but were unable to take it before fleeing on their motorcycle, she said.

Rescue personnel provided first aid at the scene before taking the injured British man to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.

Police check CCTV footage

Pattaya City Police got Mr Anand to make a formal complaint and have sent investigators to look for evidence in the area.

Officers are examining CCTV footage from the reported attack site and surrounding routes in an effort to identify and locate the two suspects. Police said they intend to pursue legal action against those responsible.

Seems to be happening a bit more often this recently tourists getting robbed with weapons by Thai guys on motorbikes but we aren't seeing much publicity about the boys in brown doing much about it or taking the crimes as seriously as they do with the naughty farang making trouble on walking street bringing Thailand into disrepute

Officers are examining CCTV footage from the reported attack site and surrounding routes in an effort to identify and locate the two suspects. Police said they intend to pursue legal action against those responsible.

Proof that the attack had taken place and not a story fabricated by the British man. Hope they catch these two hooligan Thais before they do more harm. They need to be jailed. Being drunk is no excuse.

Those kind of attacks are exactly why I abandoned retired life in Mexico and relocated to safer Thailand.

Now crime is ramping up... desperate Thai with nothing to loose or just two drunks? A disturbing trend...

A lot of the crimes are after 1am when the streets are quieter and less chance of getting caught.

Seems to me that early hours street robberies targeting lone foreign men are becoming far more common. Whereas in the past this kind of thing was very rare. We mostly assume just how safe it is in Thailand, which makes us foreigners a particularly easy target. So the boys in brown need to smartly jump all over this trend and stamp it out before it escalates.

Philippines (or certain areas) seems to have gotten more dangerous.

Several robberies, break-ins and a coupla murders of foreigners in the past while.

We always need to keep an eye out for trends.

But maybe being out in dark alleys at 1 AM is not a good idea.

Staggering people ask this. No wonder GoFundMe web sites are needed. Staying insured and aware of your surroundings is the best protection.

Yeah that's one of the reasons why I never considered Mexico even though I love the country, the people and the language.

It does seem like random crime is ticking up here, I attribute it to the declining economy and the level of desperation some people are facing.

No justification whatsoever for the crimes committed but it seems like it's getting harder and harder for a typical Thai to get by these days.

Fortunately this kind of stuff is still fairly rare and seems to be confined to pretty much Pattaya (the petty crime capital of Thailand?), and Phuket.

Let's see if the RTP takes this kind of thing as seriously as they seem to be taking the prosecution of foreigners for very innocent crimes such as bringing a lot of money into the country, buying a beautiful home, and living peacefully, while being law-abiding, paying taxes and showing nothing but respect for the local people.

I understand the prosecution of nominee companies when the businesses are competing with Thais and when somebody is abusing it by buying many properties. But for one affluent expat who buys one nice house, I think going after them is the most pig-headed, ignorant, short-sighted, and non-visionary thing that this incredibly toxic and xenophobic Anutin Administration could possibly be doing right now.

Might be the same guys that rolled the Ruski.

Of course even if the applied the current policy or they pass another fee, it will still be the the farang that pays!

This is horrible.

If Thailand gets a reputation for this kind of crime it will really hurt tourism badly.

Maybe stop obsessing about foreigners behaving badly and shift to locals behaving violently

Also, when in Vietnam....Saigon or Hanoi.. the locals who I'm with often warn me NOT to hold onto or talk on the phone outside, on the street.

Initially this surprised me, given the numbers of "boys in khaki" around, but apparently it's quite a problem.
