Prathom 6 Test Private Lessons In Sukhumvit?

Recommended Posts

Due to my busy work/study schedule in BKK and Phuket, I only have all-day Thursday free to study for this test. Unfortunately, the language schools that I have visited (Pro-Language, Unity, TLS) either do not have group classes on Thursdays, or do not offer private tuition.

Can anyone suggest a good language school in the BKK Sukhumvit or Silom/Saladaeng area that could offer Prathom 6 tuition on Thursdays (either group or private 1-to-1)?

Thanks

Simon,

As I posted earlier, the Prathom 6 test is not a test you can 'study' or cram for. It is a functional test, and passing it depends particularly on fundamentals, like how you actually write (draw) Thai script. There is an oral component as well as reading and writing.

One of the things that the schools you mentioned emphasize from about Module 3 (at UTL) forward is that they teach in such a way as to virtually guarantee you will pass the P6 test. I'm DEFINITELY NOT endorsing that school's method, as it is generally liike Thai education in general - rote learning. Still, if the P6 is your goal, you may want to ask around for one of the teachers that teach the P6 'polishing' class, and see if they might be up for some after-hours tutoring, discretely, of course.

I only know a couple of guys who have actually taken and passed the test, and I am currently not in touch with either, but I did set off down that road a couple of years ago, and got sidetracked. I hope to take the test in the future.

Best,

Sateev

Sateev, perhaps I should have phrased my request along the lines of 'I want to improve my spoken/written/reading of Thai with a view to taking (and passing!) the Bor 6 exam'.

For the past couple of years, I've improved my knowledge of Thai purely by living in a primarily Thai-speaking environment, (my wife's family members speak no English). I previously attended lessons about 4 years ago, so it's about time I gave my language knowledge a boost!

I have been discussing with my teacher about taking the bor 6 exam and I think I understand what Sateev means. I would say it will almost hinder my Thai learning in the SHORT TERM rather than improve it. I have decided to go ahead with it and have bought the Bor 1 Exercise Books the Thai kids learn from and will work up to Bor 6 before taking the exams.

Having learnt Thai for the last few years and read and write it quite well, to study for the exam I still have to go the the 'rote' method of learning it appears. For homework, read the chapter, write it down and then at the lesson do it again as she reads out the chapter. So I dont expect to improve my Thai that much over the coming year.

In the long term of course I am sure there will some benefit - at least I should be the proud owner of a shiny new qualification to impress and show my friends (maybe) :o
