Iran tourism information offices in 7 countries

Friday, September 14, 2007

LONDON, September 14 (IranMania) - Iran has launched tourism information offices in seven foreign countries to promote the country’s tourist spots, Iran Daily reported.

Malekzadeh, a deputy of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, announced that 13 more offices would be launched this year.

“Publicity is necessary for attracting tourists and boosting the country’s tourism industry. This is why we have established these offices with the help of our embassies,“ he said Presstv reported.

Malekzadeh noted that locals with experience in managing travel agencies will run the centers.

“Information offices will help remove any negative views about Iran, introduce the country as a safe vacation spot and boost tourism income,“ he said.

Iran’s tourism information offices have been set up in Thailand, Oman, Pakistan, Greece, Turkey, Bahrain and Syria.

Iran is indeed a very historic country and I don't doubt that it is relatively crime free and many of the locals friendly and welcoming towards tourists however, personally I don't wish to visit a country where I have to worry about upsetting the religious police, the wife having to wear a headscarf, potential US air strikes & backlash against foreigners, infringement of my liberties............................................

I'm not advocating "regime change" but, I don't see tourists pouring into Iran until it happens, irrespective of what they have to say in these information offices.
