I have a friend who is about 2 weeks overstayed on his Non B.

Would it be possible for him to pay the fine and keep his visa going or is it automatically canceled?

He should plan air departure immediately and pay fine - if he has a multi entry visa in all likelihood he will be allowed to re-enter after his trip.

You mentioned "re-enter" do you mean on that same visa, just want to make sure that it wont be cancelled.

Very bad idea - he should leave by air. Any trip on bus is subject to police check enroute and if he is found it could be jail/judge/deportation. If not caught on way to border the other country may refuse entry with an overstay stamp and he would have to return and be detained/deported.

He should either pay at Immigration with his flight ticket in hand or proceed to airport and leave by air. Do not believe his visa will be marked and that he will likely be allowed to use it to return if all else is in order.
