Hi All,

after I marry my tgf in her home town, is there a time limit as to when the marriage has to be registered at the local AMPHUR? At this stageI am not old enough to get a retirement visa, and i do need a marriage visa as such, as i go back to Australia on a regular basis (non-immigration O multiple entry) Eventually I will apply for a marriage visa, but it may be a few years yet. Also, at the wedding, is there any documentation required to get married. Any advice please.

The marriage IS when you register it. Nothing else is a marriage.

You can register marriage at any amphur but as a foreigner you will have to have a paper from your embassy outlining your fitness to marry and then have it translated and registered with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here in Bangkok. This can be done in a day by agencies but will take several days if you do yourself.

What you do in the village is between you and her and family and is not a legal wedding and no documents are required.
