Can anyone recommend a decent flight to New York? Singapore and Malaysia both seem to have rather long layovers in either country's capital. So from Bangkok? Thanks.

I flew the nonstop from BKK to JFK last year. They had only two classes, economy and Business/First Silk class. They fly a new airbus on that route and it is very nice. Silk class had virtually lie flat seats and was top drawer. Prices were somewhat less than first class on other airlines. 17 hours nonstop was great.

Thai nonstop BKK-JFK actually has 3 classes, Business, Premium Economy and Economy. I always pay the additonal $300-$400 round trip to upgrade from Economy to Premium Economy (U Class). The extra legroom (42") is worth the additional cost.

Thai Air direct

Perhaps not if the OP intends to travel in economy class.

:o ?

I wouldn't even consider spending 17 hours in Economy unless I was guaranteed an exit seat; much rather do a couple of days stopover en-route. One of the reasons why I usually fly with Emirates MAN - BKK.

If you've no option due to time constraints etc. then good luck.

International direct flights to JFK are a nightmare. One option is to use a west coast gateway. LAX is bad but not as bad as JFK. SFO is a snap. Plus you clear Homeland Madness at those ports of entry, so you can avoid the long, long lines @ JFK. Even flights into ORD are easier. This way you can connect to LGA or EWR which can be easier for domestic flights. I am using Eva for my Nov & Dec. flights. Never flew them as I was always loyal to SQ & TG. However, after the lost luggage and delays associated with TG last Transpacific, I decided a change was necessary.

One contributor says Emirates. never flown on them but everything I hear from happy Pax that use them makes me want to.

One option you might wish to consider is a special around the world fare if you are doing a roundtrip. You can book any class for a lot less than an individual roundtrip ticket. I used to use the SQ option and paid 40% less. The websites and their preferred agents have access to special ROW fares. Best kept secret.

Have flown many airlines on that route. My favorite is EVA Air economy delux. Even though the flight is longer, it is very enjoyable service and the departure time is convenient. Thai Air nonstop was shorter but service cannot compare. However, best price is consideration also.

Last year, I flew Thai Air - Premium Economy because the standard economy seats were sold out. Glad I did. A super comfortable ride. Recommended!
