Uk Work Permit Success

Featured Replies

My thai girlfriend want to get work permit visa. What is the path to success in uk, i.e. nursing, chef or some other unkown profession i.e. sales??.

What qualifications, how/what/where/why

How you apply/ how/what/where. Do you have to fly to uk for interview?

I would appreciate some precise detail on the various paths involved. I heared that the philipino nursing qualification is deemed better than ours - not sure about thailand routes...

Thanks in advance..

I am pretty sure you have to have an employer first - you do not get a pass then look for a job unless you are in some highly skilled in-demand jobs and even then I do not know.

Yes, we take a lot of Filipino and African - Carribean nurses etc - they have taken their boards in English or take them for the UK

Chef is one way to go - must show a number of years experience though in places of high calibre in your home country i think

Aircraft engineers were in short supply ;-))

IT?

If your girlfriend is well educated (ie univesity degree, masters), is under 35 (even better to be under 28) and has a good job which pays between GBP 10K to 20K per year, she may want to consider the Highly Skilled Migrant Permit, essentially a UK greencard, which would enable her to work in any job in the UK.

Otherwise the workpermit option is the only way to go, and it does require she have qualfications and experience and that no EU citizen is better qualified for the job (which you must advertise on an EU wide publication). This is tied to the employer.

Otherwise, you marry her, and she doesn't need a work permit.

Is she a nurse, a chef or an importer? it sounds to me as though you are trying to shoehorn her into a profession that may require people and getting her to wear the correct hat.

It wont work like that, the prospective employer has to apply for the work permit for her and he must prove (by extensively advertising, interviewing etc) that there are no suitable people for the position already in UK or Europe. She must demonstrate with qualifications (and if no qualification then extensive experience) that she is suitable.

She wont qualify by being able to speak Thai only as there are plenty of Thais already settled in UK who could satisfy those requirements.

You probabaly right. May be its wishful thinking on my part. I didn't want to rush in to marraying. She doesn't have nursing quals, she can cook thai food but no experinence as chef...

Do you know how much return flights cost from bankok to london. Where do you recomend me buy air tickjets chepest i.e website company address.. I may apply for vistor's visa, so I can sponser her stay for three weeks at my house. Surely this must be easy visa to get - no major hurdles?

I take i apply visa before I BUY air tickets...

Thanks,

Having read your other posts, it would appear that you've recently returned to the UK from your (first?) trip to Thailand, the presumption being that you've known the lady in question only a couple of weeks at the most. In such circumstances, it will be difficult to get a visit visa as your relationship is not enduring. I suggest that you keep in touch with her for another six months or so, visiting Thailand at least once more, and then consider applying.

Scouse.

For a guide to fares check the sponsors of this forum in the banner at the top

It will depend on the time of year she travels and airline she uses.

The BE advises she applies for the visa before buying the ticket.

She can apply for a visitors visa but working is not allowed on a visit. Use the search function in this forum on the words 'visitor' and 'tourist' and you will locate threads on the subject with plenty of advice and links to the sites you need.

If you do it right and give what they ask, yes, getting a visa is straightforward. She will really need to be currently employed (with proof of salary) in Thailand to emphasise a reason to return at the end of her visit. However, if as Scouse suggests, you have no record of a lasting relationship it's best you work on that before applying for a visa.

You can always come back with specific questions.

Yes - many people do that as their GF's have to work day times - sometimes gets us stuck in BKK too when we would much rather be on a beach or up in the hills.

Then again how much do you want to see her - plenty to do and see in BKK too.
